Already-eliminated Belgacom Spirou Charleroi stunned Bilbao Basket 79-73 for its first win of the season on Tuesday. Loss sent Bilbao into its fourth consecutive defeat, and 4-4 record in Group B. After a triple from Demond Mallet midway through the third quarter, Belgacom Spirou pulled away to 54-44, its biggest lead of the night, but the visitors rallied, tying the game three times in the fourth. Mohamed Abukar answered with a triple, as the hosts took over the lead, and Mallet’s layup at the end of the first, and Trapani’s basket-plus-foul at the start of the second made it 23-16. But Bertans hit a three-pointer to start 0-9 run, capped with a layup from Damir Markota. Teams continued trading slim leads. Justin Hamilton and Mallet nailed back-to-back shots behind the arc for 34-30, and after Lopez and Gabriel scored for Bilbao, Abukar helped the hosts to 39-36 halftime lead. With baskets from Devin Green and Watkins, Spirou pulled away to 45-36 at the start of the third quarter, and after a triple from Bertans, Spirou increased it to 54-44 through Watkins, Trapani and a triple from Mallet. Back-to-back dunks from Watkins gave the hosts 71-67, but Zoran Vrkic and Gabriel hit back-to-back three-pointers for 73-73 with less than 2 minutes to go.
