Zeleznik led from the very first minute to win its second game of ULEB Cup on the Italian court of Roseto Basket Town by the solid score of 72-82 on Tuesday in Group B. The main difference between the two teams came in shooting accuracy, as Roseto made only 45% of its two-point shots on its own floor to 67% for Zeleznik. Aslo from behind the arc the Yugoslavs shot slightly better, 36% to 31%. Roseto grabbed more rebounds (33-29) but not enough to become a real danger for Zeleznik. The winners had 22 points from center Goran Nikolic,, 17 from Ognjen Askrabic and 10 others from Sasa Bratic. Four players reached double figure for Roseto, led by Juan Manuel Moltedo with 16 points. Marko Milic posted 15, while Teemu Rannikko and Diego Fajardo put up 13 each.

FMP Zeleznik showed quckly after at Roseto why they were 4-0 on the season between the first ULEB Cup game and their Yugoslav League 3-0 record. The visitors started at once to play with great intensity on defense, often using a full-court man-to-man press, and especially the perimeter players of Roseto felt the heat. At the end of the first period the guests led 19-26, largely by dominating under the boards where Askrabic and Nikolic were unstoppable for the Italian defense. Roseto made the questionable to double team on Zeleznik's pick-and-rolls, which gave an advantage in the paint to the Yugoslavs. Nothing changed in the second period as Zeleznik continued to use its physical defense to limit Roseto to 5 points over 5 minutes to lead 24-33. Zelznik managed to finish the first half ahead 33-41 with 14 points already bagged by Askrabic and 11 by Nikolic.

Zeleznik's full-court defensive pressure kept intimidating Roseto's outside players and the Yugoslavs made a decisive run in the third period, which finished with 45-60 on the scoreboard, despite Roseto trying a 2-3 zone defense. Nikolic scored promptly twice from the mid-range. Milic tried to lead his team in the first part of the fourth period, scoring 12 points, but Zeleznik stayed with its head in the game and managed it until the final.

Head Coaches

MELILLO, PHILIP
Eurocellulari Roseto
"The game played tonight showed, if anyone still needed it, that our team has to play along all the 40 minutes in the same way. And just playing with the right attitude and at the top of intensity for all the 40 minutes, we could have the vitories we want and also our fans desire. Two were the keys tonight, the bad choices on offense and bad helps on defense."
PETROVIC, ACO
FMP Belgrade
"I say that my team had a big merit tonight in the victory, we dominated the game from the first to the last minute. They suffered our aggressive defense and they never played in offense with precision and making the right choices. They had big problems to receive and work without the ball. And I want to thank Nikolic and Askrabic, as both dominated the paint."

Players

FAJARDO, DIEGO
Eurocellulari Roseto
"We have played a bad game and just in the last 10 minutes we tried to recover playing at our best, but we cannot change the result in a such a short time. We must understand as the coach says, that we cannot have a bad concentration for the first half of the match. I want to congratulate Zeleznik because they have played a great game."
ASKRABIC, OGNJEN
FMP Belgrade
"It was a good game for us, Roseto had big difficulties playing against our tough defense and we have been intelligent to stay calm when they arrived close to just five points. We were not afraid and were able to be in control the game until the end."
