Petr Benda - CEZ Basketball Nymburk - Qualifying Round 2012CEZ Nymburk took control of Group A with a big 69-86 win over Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem at Malha sports hall in the Israeli capital on Wednesday. Nymburk now holds a 2-0 record in first place of the standings, while Hapoel dropped to last place at 0-2. The visitors grabbed the advantage early in the first quarter with a 0-11 run, and never relinquished the lead. Hapoel stayed close for three quarters, though, before Vojtech Hruban put the game away by scoring 15 fourth-quarter points. Hruban finished with 19 points, while Petr Benda had 16. Lukas Palyza scored 12 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting, Radoslav Rancik also had 12 and A.J. Abrams chipped in with 11. For the hosts, Criag Smith had a game-high 23 points plus 8 rebounds, Jacob Pullen scored 14 and Courtney Fells scored all 9 of his points in the third quarter.

Pullen hit a jumper to start the scoring, than added a triple to his account and Raviv Limonad's jump shot made it 9-2. The visitors took control, though, answering with a 0-11 run as Benda scored twice and Radek Necas added a layup-plus foul. Abrams sunk a triple to extend the lead to 11-16 before Meir Tapiro hit a jumper for the hosts to end the first quarter and hit another to start the second. However, Palyza hit two triples and Abrams added another one to push Nymburk's lead to 19-27. Pullen responded with a jumper and a triple, followed up with Smith scoring twice and Josh Duncan hitting from downtown to cut it to 32-33. Before halftime, Palyza hit his third triple of the quarter and the visitors went into the break holding a 35-37 advantage.

The third quarter started with a jumper from Jiri Welsch and Abrams added a triple and a jumper of his own, quickly making it 35-44. Hapoel stayed in range with Smith scoring a basket-plus-foul while Fells, scoreless to that point, strung together 9 points including a triple from the right corner that cut it to 47-50. Rancik hit a triple and a basket-plus-foul to prevent the hosts from cutting it even closer, while perfect execution of two-on-two situations from Miljan Pavkovic and Drew Naymick extended the lead to 52-62. Smith ended the third quarter with a basket-plus-foul, making it a 7-point game after three quarters and the same player scored inside to open the scoring in the fourth, 57-62. However, Hruban got hot as he first hit a triple and a baseline jumper, then drove for a two-handed slam and finally hit another triple to make it 62-74. The margin eventually reached 17 points after back-to-back triples from Hruban and Palyza that sealed the outcome.

Head Coaches

DRUCKER, SHARON
Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem
"Disappointing, frustrating, painful. We must raise our head and move on. We are trying to build something and today we kicked the bucket. The situation is not good, it’s a group of six games and we have lost two games by double figures. I told the players that anything can happen. We will rest tomorrow and prepare for the game on Sunday. Today at the beginning of the game, we forced them into the 8 turnovers, and finished the quarter with just 13 points."
GINZBURG, RONEN
CEZ Basketball Nymburk
"Jerusalem have tremendous ability; today we played better, We made some adjustments during the game. Smith gave us problems from inside and Pollen gave us problems at first from the outside. Last year we started with three wins, and we got a loss Lithuanians in the fourth game. People tended to underestimate the Lithuanians. This group is very poised on paper."
