Maccabi cruises past Darussafaka
Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv led from start to finish as it handled visiting Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul 77-58 at Menora Mivtachim Arena on Thursday night. Maccabi improved to 11-13 and at least a share of 10th place in the standings, while Darussafaka dropped to a league-worst 3-21. Tarik Black scored 11 of his 17 points in the first quarter and also collected 8 rebounds to lead the winners. Michael Roll added 12 points and Alex Tyus posted 10 points plus 9 rebounds in victory. Jeremy Evans scored 17 for Darussafaka and Oguz Savas had 10 points and 6 rebounds in the losing effort.
Black scored 9 points in the first 6 minutes, including an alley-oop dunk and a mid-range jumper, as Maccabi took control 12-2. Evans hit a corner triple and added a dunk-plus-foul for the visitors to close the gap, but Maccabi kept the lead and held an 18-10 cushion after 10 minutes. Evans had 12 points in less than 12 minutes to keep Darussafaka briefly in touch, but Roll hit four runners and Jeremy Pargo knocked one down from downtown to help extend the margin to 31-16 midway through the second quarter. A three from John DiBartolomeo extended the lead to 18 points, before Savas and Zanis Peiners with a triple helped cut it to 38-23 at halftime. However, Black and Johnny O'Bryant combined to score 11 points in a 13-4 run in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter as Maccabi got its biggest lead of the night, 51-27. Darussafaka responded with three-pointers from Evans and Toney Douglas before a dunk and floater from Emircan Kosut cut it to 55-41 in the final minute of the third. Darussafaka never got closer than that. Tyus opened the fourth quarter with a pair of dunks. DiBartolomeo had a three-point play and a three-pointer to open a 72-51 advantage before the hosts closed out the game.
Maccabi defense bites from the start
Maccabi forced 5 turnovers in the opening 3:50 of the game. In the first half, it held Darussafaka to 7-for-18 two-point shooting and 2-for-11 for three-pointers. Of those 20 missed field goals, Maccabi allowed only 2 offensive rebounds.
Pivotal performer
Maccabi had some stellar performances shooting inside the arc. Tarik Black (7 for 7), Michael Roll (6 for 6) and Alex Tyus (5 for 6) were a combined 18 for 19 on two-point shots.

Maccabi shot 26 for 42 for two-pointers (61.9%), but only 5 for 29 (17.2%) from three-point range and 10 for 18 (55.6%) from the free throw line.
