CEZ Nymburk took a crucial 86-74 win over Group A leader FoxTown Cantu on Wednesday. The Czech champs improved to 5-4 and retain a chance to advance to the Last 32. Cantu dropped to 7-2 and now shares first place with Telenet Oostende at 7-2. Cantu, though, will be Group A champion if it wins its last game with Cibona Zagreb. Rasid Mahalbasic amassed 21 points and 9 rebounds for a performance index rating of 30 to lead the winners, Tre Simmons collected 19 points and 9 assists, while Dylan Page had 18 points. Adrian Uter was the main contributor for the visitors with 17 points, Roberto Rullo chipped in 14 on 4-for-6 three-point shooting and Michael Jenkins added 10 points and distributed 4 assists.

Mahalbasic scored 4 of 7 unanswered Nymburk points to start the game. Rullo scored 5 of the first 8 points for Cantu as it climbed within 11-8. Back-to-back mid-range jumpers by Simmons and Page gave the first double digit advantage, 18-8, to the home team. Cantu reacted with Stefano Gentile from long distance, then a Marcel Jones lay-up made it 20-16 before veteran Vlado Ilievski from downtown fixed the score at 23-16 for his side after 10 minutes. The guests opened the second quarter sparking on a 0-9 run to take the lead for the first time in the game, 23-25 on a Rullo three-pointer. The teams exchanged leads till an 8-0 charge capped by a Page slam gave a 37-30 advantage to the hosts. Marco Cusin and Pietro Aradori kept Cantu close. Uter made it 40-36 at halftime for Nymburk. Consecutive baskets from downtown by Joe Ragland and Rullo tied the score at 46-46 before Cantu went ahead 50-52 on Maarten Leunen’s three. Uter made it 53-54 with a free throw, but Vojtech Hruban gave Nymburk the lead for good with a jumper. Page scored twice in a row from beyond the arc to make it 66-54 at the end of the quarter. The amazing run of the home team bridged the quarters; Hruban form midrange completed a 17-0 run for a 70-54 advantage. Cantu tried to react as Gentile hit from downtown, but Simmons and Mahlbasic kept Nymburk in charge. Gentile three-point-play put Cantu within 79-70 before Thomas Massamba sealed the win with a deep three at the buzzer.

"I'm sad for this loss, because we could have secured the first place. This evening, however, we missed production from some players who have given us so much in the last games. Play of Jones, Rullo and Uter is positive, they were our leaders. The physicality of Nymburk has certainly given us problems. We are still in first place, we will put everything in the last home game with Cibona Zagreb, hoping that a sold-out arena will help us get a victory and secure the first place that we want to win."
