In an all-French showdown, Paris Levallois rallied from 14 points down, and held on to upset Asvel Villeurbanne Lyon 72-74 on Wednesday night. Win improved Paris to 3-6 in the fifth place of Group C, but it got mathematically eliminated from Last 32 race due to Valencia Basket’s win in Varese. Meanwhile, Asvel drops to 4-5 in the fourth place, and in order to advance will need to beat Valencia on the road in a winner-takes-all showdown next week. Asvel led 47-33 in the third quarter, but Paris caught up and took the lead for good by opening the fourth quarter with a 0-14 run. Asvel had the final possession of the game, but missed three attempts to win or send the game into overtime. Andrew Albicy had 14 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds in victory. Giovan Oniangue netted 16, and Nicolas Lang had 15 in victory. Edwin Jackson scored 22 points for Asvel, while Travis Leslie added 10 in defeat.

Asvel opened the game with back-to-back triples from Alexandre Chassang and Jackson, but the visitors scored on three consecutive possessions, and going in front 10-11 with Maleye Ndoye scoring from downtown. Paccelis Morlende buried another three-pointer for the hosts, but Ndoye and Louis Labeyrie made it 15-15 after the first quarter. The hosts took the slim lead in the second with a dunk from Leslie and a three-pointer from Morlende. Lang hit a triple and a jumper for the visitors who stayed within 31-30 with Jawad Williams and Elton Brown scoring inside. But Uche Nsonwu and Jackson each scored a pair of buckets in an ensuing 8-0 run, and Asvel took 39-33 into halftime. A triple from Marko Keselj and a basket-plus-foul from Jackson got Asvel to 47-33, but Paris answered with a 2-13 run that included a pair of three-pointers from Oniangue and one from Lang. But Leslie answered from long range on the other end, and had a layup and a steal in a spurt that got the hosts back into a double-digit lead, 59-48. But Oniangue and Lang scored triple before quarter’s end, and Albicy had a pair of layups at the start of the fourth quarter. Oniangue added a dunk, Brown a layup for 61-62, before Lang and Albicy hit back-to-back threes, capping a 0-14 run. Chassang hit from downtown for the hosts, but Albicy hit another one for the visitors and 64-71. Georgi Joseph kept Asvel’s hopes alive, and Jackson nailed two triples to cut it to 72-74 at the start of the final minute. After Albicy missed a three-pointer, the hosts got three shots to win or send into overtime, but Chassang missed from long range before Jackson and Joseph missed tip-ins as Paris held on.
