Host side U18 FC Bayern Munich grabbed a victory in its first game at the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Munich by holding off U18 Olympiacos Piraeus 74-66 in Group A. Jim Gietz came off the bench to lead Bayern with 13 points and 5 assists while Kilian Binapfl and Sasha Grant both added 11 points. Bayern survived making just 14 of 33 free throws (42%) but did so by committing just 10 turnovers. Olympiacos turned the ball over 18 times and connected on just 50% of its own free throws (11 of 22). Nikos Arsenopoulos had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Olympiacos while Andreas Roumeliotis scored 12 points and Nikolaos Chalios added 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Matej Rudan started the game with a four-point play for the home side and Bruno Vrcic made it 10-4. Olympiacos charged back and knotted the game at 12-12. Bayern hit just 2 of 10 free throws in the first quarter but led 15-12. Olympiacos took its first lead at 18-19 and was ahead 20-24. Bayern responded with the next 8 points only to have Roumeliotis knock down two three-balls and Olympiacos was back ahead 31-32. But the host side had nosed back in front 33-32 at the break.

Binapfl and Julius Dueh combined for 8 points as Bayern went up 43-40 early in the second half. Olympiacos came back to tie it and had an answer for each Bayern big shot as Arsenopoulos nailed two three-pointers following treys from Vrcic and Daniel Zdravevski and the game was even 53-53 after 30 minutes. Rudan and Luc Van Slooten both hit threes early in the fourth quarter to make it 59-54. Olympiacos was still close at 64-60 but Gietz nailed a three-pointer off the glass, Binapfl converted a three-point play and Gietz hit a jumper and the gap was 72-62.
