Bayern too much for CSKA

Host side U18 FC Bayern Munich picked up a strong 69-55 victory over U18 CSKA Moscow to start its Group A campaign in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Munich. Simonas Lukosius scored 18 points with 4 three-pointers, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals for Bayern while Filip Skobalj scored 14 points, Sasha Grant had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Linus Hoffmann added 10 points. Bayern survived despite committing 23 turnovers as it out-rebounded the three-time continental champion CSKA 41-26. Anton Kardanakhishvili paced CSKA with 19 points while Maxim Kuzemkin had 14 points.

Lukosius’ free throw opened the scoring for Bayern with Kardanakhishvili giving CSKA its first lead 3-4. Kardanakhishvili added a three-pointer to put the Russian side back ahead 6-8 and Kuzemkin scored two baskets for a 12-14 lead, with the teams knotted at 14-14 after 10 minutes. CSKA led 16-17 before Lukosius and Skobalj nailed three-balls in a 10-0 surge to pull ahead 26-17. Kardanakhishvili answered with two baskets and Kuzemkin hit a triple to keep CSKA close, trailing 34-27 at the break. Leif Moeller and Lukosius both knocked down long balls as Bayern started the second half with a 14-3 run to lead 48-30. Kardanakhishvili hit two threes for CSKA to get the deficit down to 48-38 but Bayern was up 55-46 after three quarters. Lukosius hit another triple as the host side opened the fourth on an 11-3 surge to push the advantage to 66-49. Kuzemkin did hit back with a three-ball but Skobalj answered it and Bayern eased its way to the win.
