Generali Group of Treiste has won its first game in the ULEB Cup on French court of Chalon sur Saone at the end of a game that the Italian team controlled during all 40 minutes. The final score, 70-88, says as much. Trieste got big games from Nate Erdmann, who scored 27 points to lead the winners, from Roberto Casoli, who added 27 and from Samuele Podesta, who added 15. Trieste played without Terrance Roberson, one of its main scorers in a two-point loss in the team's ULEB Cup opener. Tuesday's road win made up for that, and now Trieste is 1-1 and even with Chalon in Group C. The home team suffered from a lack of firepower, but got 15 points from Casey Calvary, 14 from Laurent Pluvy and 13 from Luc Artur Vebobe.

The games appeared at balanced at the start as Cholet took a slim advantge on two free throws scored by Luc Artur Vebobe, but soon Nate Erdmann of Trieste to put his team close at 8-7. Erdmann would again score on a fastbreak layup for Trieste's first advantage at 10-11. The game followed along that close, until in the last minute of the period, with power forward Samuele Podesta making his jump-hook, Triese took a 16-21 advantage. The home team, led by Casey Calvary, rallied to catch up with a 10-0 run over 3 minutes of the second quarter that turned the scoreboard around at 26-21. Trieste promptly countered with an 0-6 partial to take another 26-27 lead. The score stayed close, but the Italian team dominated under the boards and use this supremacy, along with a three-pointer of young talent Daniele Cavaliero, to finish the second quarter ahead again, 34-41.

Erdmann was on fire as he gave his team a 34-45 lead beginning the third period, but "Udominator" Udonis Haslem put his heart on the floor and all his hustle to help Chalon to recover. The home team made a big defensive effort to come within 44-51 in the midkle of the period on a Dragan Vukcevic three-pointer. Trieste started again to improve its advantage, but Stanley Jackson scored now to help the French team to stay close at 48-56. Now, however, Cavaliero scored another triple to end the third period on 48-59 for the guests. The last 10 minutes started with two Chalon turnovers against the Treiste defense, leading to an 0-5 run on baskets by Ismaila Sy and Sinisa Kelecevic. The lead soared to 49-67 and from that moment Trieste was in control in a way that Chalon, even on its home court, could not threaten.

"We have played with a lot of intensity. We lost the first game because we didn't play 40 minutes With concentration. When we do though, our defense becomes better like tonight."
