Haislip scored again in the paint but Roko-Leni Ukic bettered him with a three-pointer. A red-hot Haislip fired in his fourth triple, as Vazquez tried to ignite a Barcelona comeback with a five-meter jumper and a block. Gonlum stepped up with a put-back basket but free throws by Ukic brought Barcelona within 67-56 after 30 minutes.

De La Fuente buried a three-pointer right at the start of the fourth quarter and then free throws by Trias brought Barcelona as close as 67-61. Gonlum shined with a jump-hook but Ukic hit free throws and fed Vazquez for a five-meter jumper, forcing Efes to call timeout at 70-65. Nicholas stepped up with a corner three-pointer and Erden copied him soon after that to boost the Efes lead back into double digits again, 76-66, midway through the final period. Trias and Vazquez again got Barcelona closer at 76-69, and even when Lakovic hit a free throw, Erden finished another long Efes offense with a layup. Lakovic hit a seven-meter bomb while Roger Grimau added a fast break layup to get Barcelona within 78-75 with less than 2 minutes remaining. Vazquez hit a shot with 41 seconds to go while Hersek and Grimau traded free throws for a 79-78 edge with 15.4 seconds to go. Head Coaches

MAHMUTI, OKTAY
Efes Pilsen
"It's good to have a win against a great opponent like Winterthur Barcelona after a long losing streak. But winning is not the main thing for us as we are trying to build up our new formation. In this new formation, we were able to do what we wanted to for most of the game. Of course, we have some doubts. We could be better on offense, especially in the second half. Anyway, this was a kind of a prestige game for us. We won and are happy for it but still have long way."
IVANOVIC, DUSKO
Winterthur FC Barcelona
"First of all, I congratulate Efes Pilsen for their win. We were motivated to win this game, but we had a very tough opponent in the first half, trying to do everything to win the game. In the second half, we did everything we could to turn back the game, but it didn't work. Marcus Haislip and Nicola Prkacin played excellent tonight and did a great job, especially inside. If you let your opponent play the way they want and if your opponent is Efes Pilsen, it's normal to lose."

Players

HERSEK, BARIS
Efes Pilsen
"We lost our chance, but despite this handicap, we are well motivated and challenged very well for most of the game. We did everything we can especially in defense. I also think that I used my chance very well on the court, since I'm not getting that much time. I tried to defend Juan Carlos Navarro as good as I can. Now we want to end the season with another win against Prokom Trefl on the road next week."
KAKIOUZIS, MICHAILIS
Winterthur FC Barcelona
"I think we were feeling a little bit lack of motivation tonight now that we've already guaranteed to qualify to the quarterfinals. Efes Pilsen is a very good team and if you're not focused well enough, you can lose anyway. We realized that we are losing the game finally in the last quarter, but it was too late."
