DKV Joventut kept its sights set on first place in Group A as it downed KK Bosna 83-66 on Tuesday in Badalona, Spain. Joventut is co-leader of Group A with an 8-1 record, the same as Turk Telekom. If both win or lose in the last week of the regular season, Joventut will finish first in the tie. KK Bosna fell to 3-6, but could still save its season with a sizable home win over Alba Berlin next week if Siauliai cannot beat Joventut at home. Rudy Fernandez had 22 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds to led Joventut, which had no other players score in double figures. Lonny Baxter, Eduardo Hernandez-Sonseca and Lubos Barton nailed 9 points apiece. Dzenan Rahimic had 15 points with 6 boards for KK Bosna. Lance Williams collected 13 points and Jeremy Veal 11.

The game started slow and Rahimic converted an offensive rebound to give to Bosna an early 8-11 advantage after 8 minutes. Joventut continued to shot poorly while Quemont Greer from mid-range fixed the final 10-15 for the visitors at the end of the first quarter. Nothing changed as Greer capped a 2-11 run bridging the quarters to put Bosna in front 12-24 after 13 minutes played, forcing a Joventut timeout. Ricky Rubio and Drago Pasalic exchanged two-pointers, then the hosts extended their defense to full court and thanks to a 13-1 run took the lead at 29-27 with Jerome Moiso scoring on an assist by Demond Mallet. Bosna found two easy points from Williams to tie 29-29 while Mallet from the mid-range fixed the slim 31-29 margin for Joventut at halftime. Hernandez-Sonseca scored in the paint and added a free throw to give to Joventut a 37-31 advantage early in the third quarter. Rahimic got Bosna within 44-42 after 26 minutes. Baxter again tried to push Badalona farther, at 51-44, but Goran Ikonic made a magic four-point-play that had Bosna as close as 51-48. Ferran Laviña scored a pair from the foul line before Williams finished the third-quarter scoring for Bosna with the scoreboard showing 62-54. Fernandez, from the three-point land, gave Joventut a new a double-digit advantage, 68-56, early in the last quarter. Veal tried to keep Bosna alive, but the hosts maintained a safe margin until the final buzzer.

Head Coaches

GARCIA RENESES, AITO
DKV Joventut Badalona
"Playing against certain teams can take you to relaxing, everybody thinks the game is won before playing and then, of course, things happen. Today Bosna challenged us, they played really well and we had to race against the clock to recover, rushing things when the normal thing would have been being concentrated in the game from minute one. We repented from the bad first quarter and w efixed the situation. As a positive thing I keep with me that we have capability to react to win the game."
ZDOVC, JURE
Bosna Sarajevo
"We played well during the first half, and we leave happy because I think we were there all the 40 minutes. Only at the end Joventut pulled away on the scoreboard. I think that 17 points is too much for what we saw on court. We never gave up. We committed mistakes in several points of the game, and they took advantage of that. I think Joventut is one of the best 10 teams in Europe right now."

Players

FERNANDEZ, RUDY
DKV Joventut Badalona
"There's no excuse for relaxing. At the break, Aito showed us the bad things we did. After that we could fix the situation and we could take the win, even though we have to be aggressive from the beginning. Always. We have to be humble and do our best against everyone."
WILLIAMS, LANCE
Bosna Sarajevo
"They dominated the rebounds, but I think we played a good game today. Joventut plays fast ball and we didn't have an excuse to relax. They took advantage of that and showed that they are probably the best team in the ULEB Cup. We leave with our heads up."
