Lukoil Academic Sofia finished its Eurocup campaign on a winning note, downing CSU Asesoft Ploiesti 92-77 on Tuesday. In a clash of two teams with no chances to advance, Alando Tucker amassed 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists for an performance index rating 43 to lead Lukoil, as the Bulgarian champ finished the season with 4-6 record in the fourth place of Group E. Meanwhile, CSU Asesoft exits the competition with 3-7 in the fifth place. Jure Lalic had 18 points in victory, while Veselin Veselinov and Aleksandar Yanev each added 10 apiece. Christopher Dunn netted 22 for the visitors, while Gerald Lee collected 21 points plus 12 rebounds in defeat.
In the early going, Lalic dominated the defensive boards, while Tucker and Veselinov scored all points in a 9-0 run, before a jumper from Kieron Achara and a triple from Bozhidar Avramov made it 25-10. Lee got the visitors’ offense going, and Dunn sank a triple, helping cut it to 29-17 after 10 minutes. Lee continued to be the centerpiece of Asesoft’s offense, and Alhaji Mohammed nailed triple to help cut it to 31-28. But the hosts again pulled away with a three-pointer and a basket-plus-foul from Yanev on back-to-back possessions, and despite the third triple from Dunn on the other end, three dunks from Lalic ended the second quarter, giving Lukoil 47-36 halftime lead. After the break, Lalic scored from close range before Veselinov and Dimitrios Verginis connected from distance and 57-40. Dragan Zekovic and Dunn each hit a three-pointer for Ploiesti, but Tucker scored 8 more points for the hosts, and kept the margin 71-53 late in the third. After Lukoil had 73-56 entering the fourth quarter, Lee and Rawle Marshall cut it to 76-64, but Lalic scored 6 points and Tucker scored from the arc, as the lead reached 85-64, and the hosts cruised the rest of the way.
