After its last two home games ended in protests, one of which is still pending resolution, Telindus Oostende gave its fans a close win to celebrate when it rallied in the last quarter to beat visiting CEZ Nymburk 83-81 in Group F on Tuesday. The victory left Oostende with a 4-4 record with its Week 8 game against Beghelli Bologna waiting to be replayed, as ordered by the competition's disciplinary judge a couple days ago. Nymburk, which could have advanced to the elimination rounds with a victory, instead fell to 5-4, and must wait for other results find out its future. Greg Brunner, whose triple in the final minute supplied the last of many lead changes, paced Oostende with 20 points. Jerry Green added 15, Chris McCray, Velesin Petrovic and Titus Ivory 11 each. Nymburk was led by Radoslav Rancik, who had all of his 27 points and 7 steals in the first three quarters. Monty Mack followed with 16 points, while Arthur Lee had 13 and Petr Benda 10.

Green scores all of Oostende's points for a 5-2 start, but Rancik quickly tied with a three-point play for Nymburk. Ovcina, Petrovic and Sam Van Rossom answered for Oostende with 6 points in a row, but before long, Mack was hitting a triple and Rancik an inside basket to keep the guests within 16-14 as first quarter finished with almost 2 scoreless minutes. Chuck Davis and Green reestablished Oostende's six-point lead to start the second quarter. Despite Rancik rattling in a triple, the hosts boosted the difference higher and higher on triples by Titus Ivory and Chris McCray that were good for a 29-17 advantage. McCray's eight point in a row topped out the lead at 34-21, before Arthur Lee, Mack and Rancik filled a 3-9 run for the guests. Petrovic stopped Oostende's slide with a triple, but Rancik matched him and scored again in a 0-7 burst that made it 40-37. Rancik's last basket of the half, giving him 17 points, set up another by Pavel Benes that trimmed the difference all the way to 42-41 at the break. Rancik kept rolling into the third quarter, when his 5 points in a row reclaimed the lead for Nymburk, 45-46, and his three-pointer soon capped a 2-10 run with 46-51 on the scoreboard. Petr Benda joined Rancik in closing out the quarter with Nymburk nursing a 50-57 lead after 30 minutes. Oostende climbed back within striking distance with a 6-2 start to the final quarter, but still trailed before Petrovic and Greg Brunner hit baskets that set up a go-ahead triple by McCray at 67-66. Green followed with a triple and Brunner another basket to cap a 14-2 run with Oostende in charge, 72-66. A tense couple minutes passed with only free throws traded before Mack and Ladislav Sokolovky canned back-to-back triples to put Nymburk back in the game at 76-74. That set up Lee's go-ahead triple to start the next-to-last minute with Nymburk now ahead, but Brunner was just as sharp from downtown, swinging the scoreboard back to Oostende, 79-77. Green stepped out and drilled another from long-range to make it 82-77. Lee at the line and Mack inside got 4 of those points back in the final minute, but time ran out on Nymburk's gallant try to qualify as Oostende lived to fight another day - or two.

Head Coaches

DRUCKER, SHARON
Telindus Oostende
"This is a good and important win. The guys responded very well. If you come into the lockerroom you could see how they wanted the game. As a coach the only thing you have to do then is comfort and support them. Down the stretch, we refused to lose and played very aggressively. Everybody gave his heart tonight, the guys on the bench as well as the five on the court. We won an important game."
KATZURIN, MULI
CEZ Nymburk
"Congratulations to Oostende. At the end of the game, the team that wanted to win more got the win. Oostende hit more 3-pointers than they have averaged throughout the season. I am disappointed because this has been our weakest game in this ULEB Cup competition. We played a good third quarter but totally failed in the last quarter where Oostende got 33 points. If you get that many points in a final quarter, you don’t deserve to win."

Players

BRUNNER, GREG
Telindus Oostende
"In the third quarter we got under pressure, while in the last quarter we were able to put pressure on them and forced some turnovers. We hit some big shots down the stretch and that was the key thing tonight."
RANCIK, RADOSLAV
CEZ Nymburk
"It was a good game. We made a lot of mistakes down the stretch we should not have made. We were in the game all the time but blew it down the stretch. Congratulations to Oostende for their effort."
