Panionios Athens grabbed its first win in Group H by edging Radnicki Kragujevac 77-72 in the Greek capital on Wednesday. Errick McCollum led the winners with 27 points. Uros Duvnjak added 19 on 10-of-10 free throws for Panionios. Dusan Mladjan led Radnicki with 16 points. Mouphtaou Yarou and Dennis Seeley each added 14 while Stefan Balmazovic had 11 for the guests, which overcame a slow start to get a 9-15 lead late in the first quarter. McCollum stepped up for Panionios and got help from Duvnjak to make the hosts get a three-point edge, 28-25, at halftime. Radnicki improved its offense after the break, as a good team effort and three-pointers by Mladjan and Balmazovic gave the guests a 42-48 edge late in the third quarter. It didn't last long, however, as McCullum, Landon Milbourne and Ioannis Athanasoulas fueled a game-changing 14-0 run that put Panionios ahead for good, 56-48. Panionios extended its margin to 68-58 but Radnikci got as close as 71-70 with 22 seconds left. Free throws by Duvnjak, Milbourne and McCollum sealed the outcome down the stretch.
Duvnjak had 4 points in 6-0 opening run but Seeley and Nikola Kalinic soon gave Radnicki its first lead, 6-9. Radnicki found a new go-to guy in Yarou, as Panionios made just 4 of its 15 opening shots in this game. Marios Batis tried to change things with a three-pointer which brought Panionios within 12-15 after 10 minutes. McCollum, who had been scoreless until now, had 8 quick points to put Panionios back ahead, 20-17, early in the second quarter. Marc Antonio Carter, McCullum and Duvnjak made free throws for a 28-25 Panionios lead at halftime. Mladjan struck from downtown right after the break and a layup by Stefan Jovic put Radnicki back ahead, 30-32. Duvnjak and McCollum stepped up for Panionios and a three-point play by Milbourne tied it at 39-39. Sava Lesic and Balmazovic allowed Radnicki to regain the lead, 44-48, after 30 minutes. Panionios improved its defense early in the fourth quarter, as Milbourne and Athanasoulas led a 14-0 run whicb Batis capped with a layup for a 56-48 margin with 7 minutes left. Marko Marinovic and Kalinic tried to bring Radnicki back to life but Vasileios Kavvadas stepped up in crunch time and a three-pointer by Dubnjak seemed to seal the outcome, 66-56, with over 3 minutes left. Balzamovic, Mladjan and Seeley thought otherwise, bringing Radnicki within 70-69 with 47 seconds left. McCullum and Lesic split free throws, Duvnjak and Jovic did not miss and Milbourne hit both attempts for a 75-72 Panionios lead. A turnover by Jovic and more foul shots by McCollum allowed Panionios to celebrate the win.
