Dinamo Sassari hits 16 triples, thrashes TED Ankara
Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari had a dream start to the Last 32, hitting 16 three-pointers and thrashing Aykon TED Ankara Kolejliler 103-67 on Wednesday night. Sassari took control of things with a 17-0 first quarter run, and never looked back. It held 52-34 advantage at halftime, and used a huge third quarter to open 92-49 margin in the fourth. Caleb Green paced the winners with 25 points and Omar Thomas scored 20. Marques Green had 14 points and dished 10 assists, while Drew Gordon scored 14 in 10 minutes of action. Vladimir Golubovic scored 27 for Ankara, and Vanja Plisnic had 12 in defeat
Golubovic scored the first couple of baskets of the game, but Sassari quickly replied through Caleb Green and Marques Green, before a dunk from Giacomo Devecchi and a put-back from Linton Johnson sparked a 17-0 run. Caleb Green had a fastbreak layup and a pair of triples, while Thomas added a jumper and a triple, as the hosts went in front 22-9. Drake Diener extended it to 29-13 in the final minute of the first quarter, and Marques Green hit from downtown early in the second. Kristaps Valters and Golubovic hustled to keep Ankara In touch, but back-to-back triples from Brian Sacchetti and Marques Green made it 42-24. Plisnic scored 6 points for the visitors, including a three-pointer, but Thomas scored six points for Sassari and 52-34 at halftime.
After the break, Gordon started the storm with a three-pointer and a dunk. Drake Diener scored from downtown, and Caleb Green added a dunk for 64-36. Golubovic scored twice inside, and Clay Tucker had couple of jumpers, but Caleb Green and Gordon scored from behind the arc and followed it with a 12-2 run as Manuel Vanuzzo and Caleb Green buried more three-pointers for 82-45. Vanuzzo and Marques Green hit from long range at the start of the fourth, and Caleb Green scored a layup for the biggest margin of the night, 92-49, before Muhammed Baygul and Golubovic helped Ankara cut the deficit in the closing minutes.
