Khimki Moscow Region clinched a spot in the next stage with a 75-62 victory over FoxTown Cantu. Tyrese Rice scored 13 points and dished 8 assists and Paul Davis scored 14 in 18 minutes to pace Khimki, which improved to 4-1 in Group J, while dropping Cantu to 2-3. The hosts led by just 4 early in the second half before taking over with 16 unanswered points. The lead reached 25 in the fourth quarter before Cantu did some late damage control. Darius Johnson-Odom led the visiting attack with 23 points, James Feldeine scored 15 and DeQuan Jones 10.

Rice and Johnson-Odom traded threes for the game’s first points. Ruslan Pateev dunked twice and Rice hit from downtown again to put Khimki up 13-7. After a Feldeine triple, Jones brought Cantu back within 1. Petteri Koponen scored twice and Stanislav Ilnitskiy made a three for a 9-point Khimki cushion. Johnson-Odom free throws made it 23-16 after 10 minutes. Davis’s basket-plus-foul gave the hosts a double-digit lead. Johnson-Odom answered with a triple, but Khimki continued to score and a James Augustine slam made it 34-21. Feldeine started and ended a 0-8 Cantu run in which Girogi Shermadini also scored, blocked a shot and collected 2 rebounds. Davis dunked to keep Khimki ahead 38-31 at halftime.

Johnson-Odom made it a 4-point game early in the second quarter. Egor Vyaltsev, Tyler Honeycutt and Sergey Monia connected on back-to-back-to-back threes to start a game-breaking 16-0 run that made it 55-35. After a Davis basket-plus-foul and a Shermadini slam, it was 60-38 through three quarters. Davis saw the Khimki lead peak at 67-42. Cantu used a late 0-10 run to reduce the deficit, but was unable to mount a serious threat.

“I’m happy for this win as it was a home game and we needed to win. We played well, but I’m not satisfied with the last quarter. We controlled the course of the game and showed smart basketball at times. In short, we gained revenge and made it with the required points. So now we have good chances to enter the next round from the first place regardless of the other groups’ results. We did our job, but of course we could have played better.”
SACRIPANTI, PINO
FoxTown Cantu
“Khimki is a great team and we knew that it's not an easy thing to play here as they win at home every time. We tried to stay in the game and for 20 minutes we attempted to control the rhythm, but in the third quarter Khimki became more aggressive. They pressed and everyone played hard in their positions so they set off and we scored only 7 points. This was the key in the game. But we tried to play for the points and lost by 13. Now we wait for the other result in our group. I think that the physical game on defense is the key for Khimki and 6 assists show the difficulty with our ball moving.”

“First of all we got a win and now we want to go to France to get a win and secure first place in the group. It was good for us as Cantu is a good team that plays all 40 minutes. We stopped playing in the last three minutes and they scored their points. We lost our focus and the opponent played for the point difference. We have to improve. Most of the game we played great defense. We followed our game plan in defense that helped us to get a win.”
