Dolomiti Energia Trento soars into Last 32 thanks to Pascolo, Wright

Dolomiti Energia Trento racked up its third straight victory – and second on the road – to claim a spot in the Eurocup Eightfinals in its first season in the competition. Trento pulled away in the second half to defeat host Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 72-84. The victory boosted Trento to a 4-1 mark in Group K of the Last 32, while dropping Reggio Emilia to 2-3. The hosts trailed by 5 early in the third quarter when Julian Wright led Trento on a 0-18 run, during which he scored 7 and assisted on another 7 points! Reggio Emilia never recovered from that. Davide Pascolo missed just 2 shots while scored 25 for the winners, Trent Lockett added 19 points, Diego Flaccadori scored netted 11 points and Wright finished with 10 points and 6 assists. Achille Polonara shot 4 for 4 from downtown in accruing 18 points for the hosts. Amedeo Della Valle added 13 points and Pietro Aradori had 12 in defeat.

Polonara scored the first 5 points for Reggio Emilia, but a three-point play by Pascolo gave Tento its first lead, 5-6. Flaccadori added a three for the visitors, but Aradori pushed the hosts to a 9-9 tie. Flaccadori and Pascolo put Trento back ahead briefly, but Darjus Lavrinovic scored 4 straight points to push Reggio Emilia to a 15-13 edge. The lead swayed back and forth again before Lockett split free throws to tie it and Pascolo made it 18-20 after 10 minutes in which he scored 10 points. The teams continued trading jabs in the first few minutes of the second quarter before Lockett and Pascolo made it 24-31. After a Jamarr Sanders triple and a basket-plus-foul from Pascolo, the difference was up to 9 points. Wright’s offensive rebound and assist to Lockett took the lead to double figures, 30-41. Vladimir Veremeenko and Aradori came alive to bring Reggio Elia back, but a last-second three by Lockett ended the half at 39-46.

Aradori scored the first basket of the second half, but then watched his team get shut out for four minutes, while Trento went on a 0-18 run, during which Wright scored 7 and assisted on another 7 points! Polonaro snapped the Reggio Emilia drought with a triple and Della Valle soon added another, but even so the visitors reached the end of the third quarter with a comfortable 52-70 lead. Pascolo and Lockett scored the first points of the final stanza to show again that they were in total control. Polonana hit a pair of threes to cut the gap to 61-75, but Lockett ensured that the host did not get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
