The Spaniards forgot about the problems they suffered against Peristeri in their first European appearance, and followed the path that gave them the victory in Kaunas. On the other side, the Croatian team faced the night without prejudices and that made the game into an offensive battle. Zadar arrived in Madrid after being beat by Lugano and Paf Bologna, trying to forget about it's run of bad luck, but the locals were ready to balance their record at home. Azofra hit it from the 6,25 line (3/3) and Alfonso Reyes under the boards set up the starting point to victory for Estudiantes. Patrick Baldwin and Richard Mandeville contained the Spaniards for a while (27-24), but Zadar were obviously in trouble, and it was confirmed in the second quarter. The fast-breaks and Estudiantes? domination both in defence and in the paint, collapsed the Croatians (51-39). It looked like it was going to be an easy victory for Estudiantes, especially after a new widest difference (59-45), but Zadar was ready for everything. The Croatians stood up, and slowly narrowed the gap to an unexpected 63-62 that opened up a whole new game. Baldwin scored 23 points and Mandeville 19 more. Despite that, Estudiantes had 16 points scored by Markovic, 17 by Reyes, 12 by Vandiver and all its players got to score, beating Zadar, who suffered its third straight European defeat.
