JDavid Lighty - JSF Nanterre - EB13SF Nanterre kept its undefeated Eurocup Last 32 record intact, downing previously unbeaten Ratiopharm Ulm 95-77 on Tuesday night. Nanterre improved to 3-0, in sole position of the first place in Group I, while Ulm dropped to 2-1 in the second place. Nanterre took control of the game in the second quarter, building a 48-34 halftime lead. The visitors stayed in range after the break, but never got closer than 9 points the rest of the way, as Nanterre cruised to victory. David Lighty led the way with 21 points, while Trent Meacham and DeShaun Thomas each scored 16 in victory. Will Daniels contributed with 10. Trent Plaisted collected 23 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors, Matt Howards scored 14, and Cameron Long 12 in defeat.

Teams traded leads at the start of the game. Four different players scored in the early going for the hosts, including Meacham who hit a three-pointer. But Plaisted scored 6 points, while Long and Philipp Schwethelm sank a triple apiece to put Ulm up 10-14. Nanterre did not allow the visitors to pull away, while Marc Judith and Kevin Lisch hit triples to start second quarter for 24-18. Long had a dunk for Ulm, but more triples, one from Lighty and three downtown daggers from Thomas helped extend it to 41-24. Per Guenther snapped Ulm’s 5-minutes field goal drought with a three-pointer, and Adam Hess followed it up with one of his own, but on the other end Sergii Gladyr hit from long range just before halftime, making sure Nanterre takes 48-34 in the break. A triple and a put-back from Daniels extended the lead to 57-41, and Lighty hit a pair of triples during the third quarter for Nanterre, but Howard made 8 free throws for Ulm, and baskets from Plaisted and Long cut it to 66-57. Lighty hit two more jumpers at the end of third, and Thomas scored twice to start the fourth, making sure Nanterre keeps a double-digit lead, 78-63. Will Clyburn sank from long range, and Plaisted from close range to keep Ulm’s hope alive midway through the fourth, but Meacham hit more jumpers to extend it to 87-68 before Nanterre closed it out.

"We need to win 4 games to qualify. We have 2 tough games on the road and it’s definitely not done yet. We know about being out because of point average, and this time I feel we protected this part to try to secure a qualification. Ulm had very mobile big guys and it was an issue to control them. We are on the same path of finding quality in our basketball, which we had lost towards the end of 2013."
LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"First of all, congratulations to Nanterre, they deserved this win. We had the chance to come back, especially coming down to 9 points. The quarter we were really down is the second quarter, where we were really too soft defensively. The other quarters were ok, but not enough against a deep and well coached Nanterre team."
