Unicaja Malaga finished Group B as undefeated winner by knocking off Brose Baskets Bamberg 71-65 in the final group game at the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet” on Saturday. Fernando Alonso scored 13 points while Andres Aguado and Kenan Karahodzic both had 11 in the win to improve to 3-0. Malaga will take on Union Olimpija in Sunday morning’s semi-finals. Bamberg lost its third straight game despite 20 points from Niklas Kiel while Andreas Obst had 17 points and Leon Kratzer collected 13 points and 18 rebounds. Kiel scored 10 points for Bamberg as the German side opened a 13-8 lead. But the game was going back and forth with five lead changes in the first quarter, the last on Tabor Taras’ trey to give Bamberg a 16-14 lead. And it was 16-15 after 10 minutes. Kratzer’s three-point play helped Brose push the advantage to 25-17 and it was still 28-22 in the later stages of the first half. Constantin Ebert knocked down a trey for Bamberg just before the halftime buzzer for a 33-27 cushion at the break. Alonso and Aguado both hit from long range as Unicaja started the second half with a 0-11 run for a 33-38 lead. Marc Nunz finally got Bamberg on the scoring board with 3:22 remaining in the quarter. Obst brought Brose to within 41-42 before a Aguado triple at the buzzer made it 41-45 going into the final 10 minutes. Kiel scored the first five points of the fourth only to see Carlos Corts and Alonso drain three-pointers in re-establishing Malaga’s lead, 48-51. Obst tried to keep Bamberg in the game with two long balls but Romaric Belemene-Dzabatou and Karahodzic both scored four points in opening a 55-61 Unicaja cushion. Kiel knocked down another trey and it was a one-point game after two Obst free throws. But Alonso answered again with a three-ball and Enrique Cortes made it 60-66. Belemene would score again and Malaga converted too many free throws down the stretch for Bamberg to come back.
