BC Kyiv defeated Telindus Oostende 68-60 on Tuesday evening to advance to the Last 16 of the ULEB Cup. Kyiv swept the teams' Last 32 series after winning the first leg 61-65 last week in Belgium. Kyiv will face PGE Turow in the next round with the first game set for Kyiv on March 11. The game was closer than the final score would indicate, with Oostende leading at several points – including by 2 early in the fourth quarter. It was still tied at 58-58 with just over two minutes remaining, but Pooh Jeter was 6 for 6 from the foul line down the stretch while Oostende was unable to get the points it needed. Artur Drozdov led Kyiv with 17 points, Marko Maravic added 11, Marcus Faison and Josh Davis scored 10 each while Jeter, who scored all 9 of his points in the fourth quarter, added 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Chuck Davis paced the Belgian champs with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Chris McCray scored 10. Oostende’s undoing was turnovers, committing 18 to Kyiv's 7.

The hosts won the opening tip and scored first when Ryan Stack fixed Jeter’s miss. Chuck Davis scored Oostende’s first points from the line. Kyiv looked comfortable was a Maravic triple made it 9-4 early, but the visitors were just getting started. Chuck Davis started and capped a 0-9 charge that gave Oostende a 4-point lead. Even after Maravic scored for the hosts, Davis scored 5 more points before Viacheslav Kravtsov ended the first period with the visitors ahead 13-18. Drozdov started chipping away at the Oostende lead and soon Faison put the hosts on top 22-21 with a three-pointer. McCray restored the Oostende lead and fought hard to keep it with the team’s next 6 points. A Sebastien Bellin triple then made it 26-30, but Kyiv finished the half on a 10-1 charge with 7 points coming from Faison to take a 36-31 lead at the break.

Oostende came out ready for the second half as Sam Van Rossom scored 6 in a 0-8 run to put the visitors on top again. Drozdov single-handedly regained the momentum for Kyiv with 9 straight points that made it 45-39 and gave the hosts a 10-point aggregate edge. Still determined, Oostende rallied on a Titus Ivory triple and Van Rossom free throws to make it 47-46 at the end of the third period. A pair of Veselin Petrovic baskets were better than one from Maravic as the lead went to Oostende once more. Elvir Ovcina boosted it to 51-53 only to see Jeter and Josh Davis put Kyiv up once more. Chuck Davis tied the score at 58-58 from the line with two-plus minutes remaining, but time started to become an enemy of the visitors as well. Jeter put Kyiv up 2. Ovcina missed from downtown and Jeter went to the line again and netted 2 as it became clear that Kyiv was headed to the Last 16.

"Me and my players are very happy that we won this game. You saw how difficult it is to play real playoff games: there’s a lot of tactics involved and it’s not so nice to watch them. Believe me all the other games are the same. Most important is that we advanced and we need to stay on this track and prepare optimally for the next round. Also I would like to say thank you to the fans that for the first time came in such a big crowd and lifted us in the final minutes. Of course I would like us to score more points, but you can not. Ostende’s defense is very smart, they keep changing it and it is not easy to play aganst it. Plus there was additional pressure and you can not expect the shooters to shoot as well as usual."
DRUCKER, SHARON
Telindus Oostende
"First of all I want to congratulate the team from Kyiv. I think they did a good job and did their work, which allowed them to qualify. I think that these two games were a good fight between two good teams. We saw very intense defense from both sides. We fought, we believed and we thought we could do it. But we made some mistakes and lost some players and everybody who played played with heart."

"Like coach said, I would like to thank the fans because they were very good tonight. A lot of them were there from previous games. It’s good to get a win against a team like this ‘cause they are a good team. We must stay focused and continue improving every day and just take it one game at a time."
