Marc Gasol paced four players in double figures as Akasvayu Girona advanced to the ULEB Cup Last 16 with a convincing 78-57 victory over Elan Chalon in the Last 32 return leg. Girona reversed an 8-point first leg loss at Chalon to win the two-game series 163-150 on aggregate and set up a Last 16 date with Hemofarm. The first game is scheduled to be played in Vrsac, Serbia, on March 11. Girona used an 18-3 run at the end of the first half and an 11-2 third-quarter surge to pull away from Chalon. Gasol collected 18 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Branko Cvetkovic added 16 points and 6 rebounds while Erik Daniels scored 11 points and Arriel McDonald had 10 for the winners. Chalon was led by Xavier Corosine's 14 points and Bryan Bracey added 10. Rolan Roberts grabbed 11 rebounds but also committed 9 turnovers. Rowan Barrett was held to just 6 points and Chalon played without Darrel Mitchell, who had 17 points and 12 assists in the first leg victory.

Bracey gave the guests the lead to start the game, but Cvetkovic scored 5 points and Daniels 4 in a 14-0 Girona run. John Ford stopped the bleeding before Barrett and Corosine both nailed three-pointers to cut the deficit to 14-10. Akasvayu surged back ahead 22-10 on the strength of two more baskets by Gasol and led 22-12 after one period. Ford's foul shots, Roberts's basket and a three by Jermaine Guice made it 23-19. But Cvetkovic and McDonald both tallied 5 points in an 18-3 run to give Girona a 41-22 lead at the break.

Ford started the second half for the guests, but Gasol's foul shot increased the advantage to 46-24. Corosine then knocked down back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 46-30. Ivan Radenovic answered with a triple of his own and another basket as Girona went on an 11-2 surge to pull ahead 57-32. Bracey however knocked down a three to trim the margin to 57-37 going into the fourth. Cvetkovic's foul shots opened the fourth and Radenovic's score pushed the gap to 61-37. Chalon refused to give up and both Bracey and Barrett knocked down three-pointers to make it 61-45. But Gasol scored on back-to-back possessions and McDonald buried a three-pointer as Girona remained ahead 73-49. And Akasvayu did not let up with Fernando San Emeterio's basket making it 77-51 as Girona proved the first leg was just a slip-up.

Head Coaches

MARTINEZ, PEDRO
Akasvayu Girona
"I believe that we played a good game, defending very well. They are a team with very good three-point shooters, but we made good defense to stop them. It’s been a great match, it enables us to go to the next round with very good sensations. Both in attack and defense we made a good job, they couldn't follow the rhythm we were playing. They didn't have Mitchell with them, so this fact helped us a lot."
BEUGNOT, GREGOR
Elan Chalon
"A very difficult match, without Mitchell it was very complicated. They tried to compensate with aggressiveness and trying to score three-pointers all the time, but we weren't so lucky as when we played at home. Akasvayu Girona played a good game and I wish them the best results in the ULEB Cup."

Players

SADA, VICTOR
Akasvayu Girona
"We played very concentrated, we knew we couldn't make any mistakes on defense. From the very beginning we saw that it could be difficult, but we played hard and played good defense, so we could manage the match."
COROSINE, XAVIER
Elan Chalon
"It's been a tough game and they played good defense. We played without Mitchell and this really affected us. It’s been a great experience to play in the ULEB Cup."
