Real Madrid champion - JT Hospitalet - EB13 (photo Marta Forne Sala)Real Madrid booked a spot at the NIJT Finals at the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Milan after beating Unicaja Malaga 62-56 in Sunday’s final of the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet”. Jonathan Barriero poured in 20 points including the game-deciding three-pointer with nine seconds left to lead Madrid to the victory and an undefeated run. Emanuel Cate added 15 points and 9 rebounds for Real. Fernando Alonso scored 13 points for Malaga, which suffered its first loss of the tournament in the final. Bruno Diatta added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat. Real jumped ahead 7-0 and it was 7-3 when Diatta’s two scores sparked a 0-8 Unicaja run to finish the first quarter, which ended deadlocked at 11-11. Diatta added another basket to start the second quarter and Malaga would push ahead 13-17. Madrid bounced back to go up 19-17 but Alonso nailed a long ball to start a 0-7 run for a 19-24 Malaga advantage. Barreiro answered with five straight points to even the game again. Real went into the break leading 30-26. Kenan Karahodzic knocked down a three-ball and completed a three-point play for Unicaja, knotting the game at 32-32. Neither team could pull away until Madrid inched ahead 44-39. But Carlos Corts nailed a trey and a Jose Alberto Jimenez free throw cut the gap to one point. Andrej Magdevski’s long ball pushed the margin to 48-43 and it was 48-45 after 30 minutes. Alonso started the fourth with a three-point play to tie the contest yet again and Romaric Belemene-Dzabatou gave Malaga the lead 48-50. It was 52-53 after Enrique Cortes’s trey with just more than three minutes to play. Barreiro punched back with a three-ball of his own and another score made it 59-54 with 64 seconds remaining. After two Alonso free throws to make it a three-point game, Jonathan Kasibabu grabbed an offensive rebound with 30 seconds for Madrid and then Barreiro buried the dagger three-pointer with nine seconds left to give Madrid the title in L’Hospitalet.
