
BCM Gravelines-Dunkreque topped visiting Telekom Baskets Bonn 74-66, improving to 2-0 atop Group D on Wednesday. The hosts pulled away with a 20-1 run that started at the end of the first, and went on for the first 5 minutes of the second quarter. It put them up 34-18, and Gravelines never looked back. Marcus Lewis and Yakhuba Diawara paced the winners. Diawara had 16 points plus 8 rebounds, while Lewis collected 16 points and 7 rebounds. Souleyman Diabate added 11 in victory. Benas Veikalas netted 18 for Telekom Baskets which dropped to 0-2. Jared Jordan had 15 points plus 9 assists, and Donatas Zavackas 14 poins plus 8 rebounds in defeat
The visitors went in front early on led by Amel McLean and Donatas Zavackas, meanwhile Gravelines got an early contribution from Souleyman Diabate and Gary McGhee to grab its first lead, 14-12. Teams were tied at 17-17 at the end of the first quarter, before hosts' big run started the second. Diabate opened it with a triple, then Yakhuba Diawara scored back-to-back from downtown, before a layup from Ousmane Camara gave Gravelines 28-17 after less than 2 minutes in the second quarter. A put-back from Diawara, and a layup from Marcus Lewis extended it to 34-18, and even though Jared Jordan and McLean tried to get visitors' offense going, margin reached as many as 18 points, and Gravelines held 45-29 at halftime. After the break, Lewis from close range, and Diawara and Abdou Mbaye from long range made it 55-34. The visitors answered with 8 consecutive points, including three-pointers from Zavackas and Veikalas, cutting it to 60-49 at the end of the third quarter, but the hosts opened the fourth with a 7-0 run, extending it to 67-49, and cruising to victory. Veikalas did cut it to 69-62 with a basket-plus-foul and three-pointer, but that is as close as Telekom Baskets got.
