Dwayne Anderson - BG Goettingen (photo bggoettingen.de)Dwayne Anderson scored 9 points in a 13-0 fourth-quarter run that lifted BG Goettingen to a 68-57 victory over Hemofarm Stada on Tuesday night. Goettingen led much of the game, but Hemofarm was always close behind, took a 1-point edge briefly in the third quarter and had closed the gap to 1 early in the fourth. That’s when Anderson took over with a pair of emphatic slams on the offensive glass and a clutch triple that shot the lead to 66-52 and allowed Goettingen to celebrate its second win in as many games, while handing Hemofarm its first loss. Goettingen now leads the group with a 2-0 record and a home game against Besiktas still to be replayed. Anderson finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the winners, Mike Scott added 16 points, Robert Kulawick had 14 and Trent Meacham 12. Milan Macvan paced Hemofarm with 16 points and Marko Sutalo added 14. These teams meet again next week in Serbia.

Goettingen stunned Hemofarm early as Kulawick opened the game with a triple off the opening tip and Meacham scored on the next two possessions for a 7-0 lead. Sutalo got the visitors going with a three, but Scott quickly put Goettingen ahead 11-3. Hemofarm settled down, slowed the pace and started to generate points in the paint, allowing Macvan and Ivan Maras to close the gap. Milos Borisov then made it 13-11 from the line. Kulawick delivered again from behind the arc and Scott added a pir of free therows for a 20-13 Goettingen lead after 10 minutes. The hosts threatened to pull away as Kulawick made it 25-13 at the start of the second quarter. A Nikola Knezevic basket didn’t do much for Hemofarm, but the visitors were warming up. Soon Milivoje Bozovic and Macvan continued to generate points inside and then Miljan Pavkovic connected on a triple to cap a 0-9 spurt that brought Hemofarm back t life. Jason Boone tried to respond by getting to the line for Goettingen, but by making just 3 of 6 free throws, Hemofarm was able to keep pace and Sutalo made it 32-28 at halftime.

Macvan opened the second half by cutting the gap to 2, however Scott and Anderson responded to stretch the lead back to a safer distance. Hemofarm continued to hover as Pavkovic scored from behind the arc and Macvan trimmed the gap to 40-39. The Hemofarm star eventually gave his team a 42-43 lead, but Scott made sure it was short lived. Nevertheless Macvan continued to lead the charge and kept his team within 51-49 at the end of the quarter. A Sutalo triple made it 53-52 and had the home fans nervous. Alas Goettingen pounced when it mattered most. Anderson dominated with 9 points – including a pair of emphatic slams on the offensive glass – during a 13-0 charge that broke the game open. By the time Boris Savovic came to revive Hemofarm with a triple, it was too late and the hosts had total control and celebrated a crucial win.

PATRICK, JOHN
Goettingen
"I am proud of my players. Like Hemofarm Stada, we missed two key players tonight due to injuries. Like Mike Scott said, the players totally committed themselves in this game against a team that plays a total different style than we do. Especially in the second half we took care of the ball and made the big shots. We also controlled the offensive boards. The intensity really picked up in that time. We now have a winning streak. We must try to carry over the momentum into our next games. "

"On behalf of my whole team, I’d like to say thank you for the wonderful welcome by the organization in Goettingen. It was an honor to be part of this show. We did not show all our qualities tonight. We missed two starting players. We had a very young team tonight who could collect their first experience against a good opponent. Games like this are very important and a good experience. We allowed too many offensive rebounds and committed too many turnovers. Our players have to play with more contact in the future. They can’t just rely on outside shots. Goettingen was the better team today. Congratulations to the team and the great audience from Goettingen."

SCOTT, MIKE

"We played against a great team tonight. We knew they were a great team and it was difficult to prepare ourselves for this game. We trusted in the coaches' game plan and system. I told the players on the court that we had to totally commit ourselves to the system of Coach Patrick. He is a smart coach. "
SUTALO, MARKO
Hemofarm Stada
"Congratulations to Goettingen. We knew they are a quality team that plays very aggressive. We prepared for this type of game. We committed too many turnovers, 19, and allowed too many offensive rebounds, 16. With numbers like these you can’t win games. In seven days we meet again with the homecourt on our side. We will do our best to win that game. Advancing to the next round means very much to us."
