Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius grabbed its first wins at the Kaunas NIJT Qualifying Tournament by overwhelming Budivelnik Kiev 98-49 in Group B on Friday. Mantas Serksnas led the winners with 17 points. Regimantas Miniotas added 15, Tomas Zdanavicius had 14 while Tautvydas Paliukenas got 12 for Lietuvos Rytas. Olexiy Masalskyy led Budivelnik with 12 points. Masalskyy got his team going with a triple and a jumper for a 2-5 edge. Serksnas and Paliukenas capped struck from downtown in a 9-0 run that gave Lietuvos Rytas the lead for good, 11-5. Maksym Robotko and Masalskyy tried to change things for Budivelnik but Lietuvos Rytas kept collecting steals - 4 in the opening 6 minutes - and an acrobatic layup-plus-foul by Aidas Einikis made it a double-digit game, 22-12. A put-back basket by Laurynas Birutis fixed the score at 28-13 after 10 minutes. Miniotas shined early in the second quarter but three-pointers by Olexandr Tarashenko and Masalskyy gave Budivelnik hope at 36-23. It didn't last long, however, as Zdanavicius and Jokubas Svambaris made Lietuvos Rytas break the game open, 51-25, at halftime. Nothing changed after the break, as Lietuvos Rytas boosted its margin to 64-30 midway through the third quarter and then again to 81-38 after 33 minutes, enough to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.
