U18 Get Better Academy Prague won its first ever game in its debut appearance, knocking off U18 Spars Ziraat Bank Sarajevo 46-54 in Group B of the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Qualifying Tournament Marko Ivkovic Belgrade. Marek Welsch led GBA with 15 points and 5 assists while Maros Zeliznak collected 9 points and 8 rebounds. Spars lost despite Tarik Biberovic picking up 14 points and 7 rebounds.

GBA scored the first four points in its first ever ANGT game. Timur Ovcina hit a three-pointer for Spars for its first lead 5-4. Welsch’s sixth point pushed GBA back ahead 7-8 only to see Ovcina hit again to put the Sarajevo team up 9-8. A big dunk by GBA’s Yoro Sidibe made it 9-12 and the Czech side was ahead 11-12 after 10 minutes. Milan Janosov knocked down a three-ball as the lead grew to 11-21. Spars ended its four-minute drought to start the second quarter on Ovcina’s free throw and Biberovic hit a triple off the bench as Spars got to within 17-21. Krystof Kulcak and Welsch both answered with three-pointers and GBA was up 20-31 at intermission. Zeliznak picked up five quick points as GBA remained comfortably ahead at 24-36. And it was 26-41 after David Javorsky nailed a three-ball and another basket. But Spars hit the final five points of the third quarter and trailed 31-41 with 10 minutes to play. Biberovic and Jakub Slavik swapped three-pointers and the gap was still 36-48. Spars charged back and Biberovic brought the club to within 45-50 with just over a minute left. Biberovic later turned the ball over and Slavik put back a big basket with 50 seconds left before Semir Karic missed a three-pointer and the game was decided.
