Panathinaikos paints the Greek Derby green
In an outstanding Greek derby, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens defeated arch rivals Olympiacos Piraeus 93-80 at home. Panathinaikos improved to 4-2 in the standings and is now ahead of Olympiacos, which dropped to 3-3. Lukas Lekavicius led the winners with 17 points. Nick Calathes added 14 and 7 assists, Thanasis Antetokounmpo had 12 while Matt Lojeski got 10 for Panathinaikos. Georgios Printezis led Olympiacos with 26 points on 9-of-10 two-point shots. Janis Timma added 17 on 5-of-6 three-point shots while Nikola Milutinov had 11 for the guests.
A three-pointer by Calathes and a deep jumper by DeShaun Thomas gave Panathinaikos an early 8-4 lead. Timma struck twice from downtown and a jump hook by Printezis put Olympiacos in charge, 10-12. A 7-0 run which Keith Langford capped with a triple made the hosts regain a 17-12 lead. Milutinov stepped up for the guests and Axel Toupane had 7 points in a 0-9 run that gave Olympiacos a 21-25 edge early in the second quarter. Lekavicius rescued Panathinaikos but Timma followed consecutive three-pointers with free throws for a 33-37 Olympiacos edge. Printezis joined the three-point shootout and soon added his trademark jump hook and a put-back layup to keep Olympiacos ahead, 41-48, at halftime. A dunk by Stephane Lasme and a power layup by Thomas gave Panathinaikos hope, 47-51, soon after the break. Lojeski followed free throws with a jumper and a reverse slam by Antetokounmpo made Olympiacos stop the game at 54-54. An alleyoop dunk by James Gist completed the hosts' comeback, 56-55. Antetokounmpo took over with a couple of three-point plays and a huge put-back slam that made it a double-digit game, 67-57, which Zach LeDay and Printezis cut to 67-62 after 30 minutes. A close basket by Calathes made it an eight-point game, 72-64, early in the fourth quarter. Milutinov and Printezis tried to ignite Olympiacos's comeback but Lekavicius and Gist kept the hosts way ahead, 81-72, with over 4 minutes left. Olympiacos did not come back and Panathinaikos had plenty of time to celebrate a big home win.
Pivotal performer
Lekavicius had 17 points, leading a deep, productive Panathinaikos bench. The Greens' bench players combined for 48 points. Olympiacos' bench was limited to just 18 points.
Game-changing moment
With Olympiacos leading 50-54, Antetokounmpo had a reverse slam, two three-point plays and a wild put-back dunk in a 12-1 run that put Panathinaikos ahead for good, 62-55. The Greens never looked back after that moment.

Panathinaikos showed great hustle in this game, finishing it with 16 offensive rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks, showing great determination and aggresiveness.
