Idea Slask Wroclaw has suddenly made itself a team to watch in Group C after rallying for ist its second win on the road Wednesday in Belgrade by 85-86 over host Partizan Mobtel. Dominik Tomszyk hit his only three-pointer of the game with 28 seconds left on the clock and those proved the game-winning points for Slask. Partizan had one more attack, but could not get the ball to go through despite two shot attempts. Combined with its previous victory at Real Madrid, the Polish champions now have a 2-3 record. Partizan, meanwhile, stays at the bottom of the Group C with 1-4 record, disapointing its 4,500 suporters Wednesday. Randy Holcomb was the top scorer for the winners with 17 points, Dainius Adomaitis added 14 and Pawel Wiekiera 13. Milos Vujanic was Partizan's best scorer with 30 points followed by Nenad Krstic with 14 and Nenad Canak with 12.

Partizan newcomer Fredric House was in the starting five, but his help was hardly visible in the begining. Vujanic, Blagota Sekulic and Duro Ostojic were at their best as Partizan rolled on a 12-3 run to lead 17-7 after 7 minutes. Slask was missing a lot of open shoots and that didn't change for the Polish champions at the begining of the second period. Fully recovered Nenad Krstic, Partizan's center, was on the floor after two weeks and looking good. But 5 minutes before the half, Slask's shot came back, with 2 triples falling as part of a 4-11 run that cut Partizan's lead to 30-25. After a series of Partizan free throws, Adomaitis scored 2 more triples and Slask had its confidence back despite trailing 43-37 at the break.

Slask started the third period playing zone defence, trying to take advantage of the fact that Partizan's long-distance shooters missed all their three-point attempts in the first half. This time, however ,they were more concentrated and hit paydirt 5 times, 3 of those by Vujanic. But Slask point guards Robert Skibniewski and Kestutis Marciulionis answered with 2 bombs of their own and the Partizan advantage was kept at 68-60 after 30 minutes.

Adomaitis opened the final period with three-pointer for 68-65, but Partizan was was able to play tight until 74-68. In that moment, Slask changed the defence and Holcomb started stopping Vujanic. The result was a 2-8 run and Slask's first lead in the game, 75-76, just 5 minutes before the end. When Wiekiera then hit one more tripple it seemed that Slask had an open road to the win. But with under 3 minutes to go, Canak hit his second three and returned the lead to Partizan. House scored his first points on a basket-plus-foul that made it 85-83, with 1:28 until the final whistle. Tomczyk didn't mean it that way, but when his triple fell 28 seconds before the buzzer, the scoring was over and Slask had another surprise win on the road.

Head Coaches

VUJOSEVIC, DUSKO
Partizan
"I can't be satisfied with everything that happened. In the last moments of the game, one ball decided the score. I must say that judging was almost shame, so like it was against Real in Belgrade. Referees stole us two points at the end of the first half. Anyway, we rebounded very bad. I hope better days are coming."
WINNICKI, JACEK
Idea Slask
"A hard game for each team because the situation in our group was similar for us and Partizan before the match. It was an additional load. My team made a lot of mistakes but we played great pick-up defense in the final period, and we shot well for three. Holcomb made an excellent job teaming Vujanic. At the very end we needed luck and it came."

Players

OSTOJIC, DJURO
Partizan
"We started the game very good and led by 13. It's a pity that our advantage lowered at the half. Slask hit seven triples in the second half, they changed the defense and we didn't adjust to it on time."
HOLCOMB, RANDY
Idea Slask
"Both teams played very tight and physical. At the end of the game we were more lucky."
