Asvel Villeubanne Lyon went on a road to down Cimberio Varese 78-85 on Wednesday, joining in on fun atop of Group C. It is a second straight win for Asvel which improved to 2-1 in a share of the first place in Group C with three more teams. Meanwhile, Cimberio dropped to 1-2 and into fifth place. The visitors took the lead for good at the end of the first quarter, and behind Edwin Jackson and Paccelis Morlende, extended the margin to 15 points with a 4-16 run at the start of the second. With three-pointers from Aubrey Coleman and Erik Rush, the hosts used 12-0 run to cut it to 57-62, but Asvel answered with 3-14 spurt that bridged the third and fourth quarter, sealing the deal. Jackson paced the winners with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Amara Sy scored 12, Uche Nsonwu had 11 points plus 7 rebounds, and Chris Wright chipped in with 10 points. Coleman led Cimberio with 23 points, Keydren Clark had 16, while Frank Hassell collected 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The hosts led by Coleman had success on the offensive glass early on, but Sy and Nsonwu got Asvel going, helping it to 10-12. Teams traded leads in the first quarter, as Clark and Achille Polonara sunk triples for 18-17, but Jackson fueled the visitors' run at the end of the first, and Morlende hit triple and a basket-plus-foul to start the second for 21-30. Asvel held the hosts without a field goal for almost 5 minutes, and Nsonwu's baskets from close range extended it to 23-38. Dusan Sakota scored from downtown to spark Varese's offense, but Jackson scored 7 points for the visitors, including a basket-plus foul, as margin was unchanged at 30-45. Before halftime, Clark's triple for the hosts was denied with 6 consecutive points from Wright for 37-51 halftime lead. Sy extended it to 39-57 at the start of the third quarter, but triples from Coleman and Rush sparked Cimberio's rally before 8 points from Frank Hassell in a 12-0 run cut it to 57-62. But Morlende hit a triple and Georgi Jospeh a layup to give the visitors 57-67 and some breathing room going into the final 10 minutes. Triple from Marko Keselj at the start of the fourth helped extended it to 60-76 before Rush and Clark answered with back-to-back triples to give hope for Cimberio. However, Nswonu hit couple of baskets and grabbed key rebounds on both ends of the floor, keeping the margin in double-digits, as Asvel avoided any drama in the final minutes.
