Trefl Sopot registered its first-ever Eurocup win by rallying from a 19-point deficit to top BC Donetsk 77-67 in Group E in Ergo Arena, Poland on Wednesday. Both teams are tied at 1-3 in Group E but Sopot is third and Donetsk fourth due to its tie-break advantage. Donetsk beat Sopot by 5 points, 92-87, a week ago. Filip Dylewicz paced the winners with 20 points. Sime Spralja added 11 while Frank Turner, Przemyslaw Zamojski and Michal Michalak each had 10 for Sopot. Vojdan Stojanovski led Donetsk with 15 points and Darius Songaila added 14. A 1-15 run that Ivan Radenovic capped with a layup allowed Donetsk to get an early 3-15 lead. Dylewicz and Spralja fueled a 12-0 run that allowed Sopot to get a 20-17 lead after 10 minutes. As many as five different Donetsk players struck from downtown in the second quarter, allowing the guests to restore a double-digit lead, 34-45, at halftime. Donetsk used an 0-8 run to get its biggest lead, 34-53, right after the break. Spralja, Turner and Dylewicz fueled the hosts' comeback and free throws by Stefanski completed it, 62-60, early in the fourth quarter. Sopot soon boosted its margin to 70-62 and never looked back.

Dylewicz got Sopot going with a layup but he didn't find much help around for the next 4 minutes. Meanwhile, back-to-back baskets by Songaila ignited a 1-15 run highlighted by Denis Lukashov's three-pointer and which Radenovic capped with a layup for a 3-15 score. Dylewicz struck from downtown and Spralja bettered Stojanovski's jumper with his own three-pointer. Adam Waczynski shined with a three-point play and a jumper by Turner forced Donetsk to call timeout at 14-17. Dylewicz and Spralja capped a 12-0 run that allowed Sopot to regain the lead, 20-17, after 10 minutes. Kaloyan Ivanov buried a triple early in the second quarter but Marcin Stefanski and Michalak gave Sopot a 24-20 edge. Back-to-back triples by Maksym Pustozvonov and Ivanov provided another lead change, 24-26. Songaila scored down low but Stefanski and Michalak tied it at 28-28. Stojanovski and Ramel Curry joined the three-point shootout in an 0-11 run that boosted Donetsk' lead back to double digits, 28-39. Zamojski and Kurt Looby stepped up with respective layups but Songaila and Oleksandr Lypovyy allowed Donetsk to keep a 34-45 edge at halftime.

Lukashov hit a jumper right after the break, igniting a 0-8 run that Songaila capped with a layup off a steal that made it a 19-point game, 34-53. Sopot improved its defense, forcing Donetsk to go scoreless for more than 4 minutes. Meanwhile, back-to-back layups by Spralja started a 12-0 run in which Dylewicz and Turner had 4 points apiece to bring the hosts back to life, 46-53. Curry nailed one from downtown but a jumper by Stefanski and a layup-and-foul by Turner brought Sopot even closer, 51-56. A dunk by D'or Fischer and a put-back basket by Piotr Dabrowski fixed the score at 53-58 after 30 minutes. Zamojski nailed a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter and soon added a jumper to tie the game, 58-58. Fischer hit a mid-range shot that Dylewicz matched at the other end. Free throws by Stefanski completed Sopot's comeback, 62-60, with under 7 minutes to go. Stefanski scored again and a layup by Junior Harrington sent the crowd to their feet at 66-60. Donetsk called timeout but Dylewicz capped a 17-2 Sopot run with a layup. Donetsk struggled to score for more than 4 minutes until Curry nailed a jumper but it was already too little, too late for the guests. Sopot kept full control of the game and cruised to a historical win.

"We really needed this win. We hope that this will calm the atmosphere around the team and will let us focus on practice and games. Today many interesting things happened. We had very bad first half. Donetsk read our pick-and-roll defense and this let them shoot open three-point shots. The key thing for us was changing this defense in the second half. The second important thing today was closing their inside game, especially stopping points from Songaila in the second half. Marcin Stefanski did great job of that. We are really happy about this win, although we weren’t successful from the three point line. Now we have to focus on our next game. "
BERROCAL, JOSEP MARIA
Donetsk
"My opinion is very simple. It was two halves of the game. In the second and third quarter, we played very good and we had a lead. In other parts of the game we didn’t move the ball in offense and we took too many three-point shots. Trefl also scored too many points from fast breaks, which we tried to stop with fouls. This let the home team recover and win the game. We showed today two faces of our game. One good one and one terrible one. "

STEFANSKI, MARCIN
Trefl Sopot
" After five games in a row, it is good to be back home and win a game. We are really happy about it. We won this game because we were more aggressive than our opponent. We had more offensive rebounds. We also shot more free throws. That shows how much we wanted to win this game. We wanted to show our best in front of our fans and I think we succeeded. "
SONGAILA, DARIUS
Donetsk
"It was up-and-down game. Coach was right. We played one quarter very good, one quarter very bad. Today they were more aggressive. We took only 4 shots from the free throw line, while Trefl took 21 shots. This was the key thing in the fourth quarter. "
