Cholet Basket improved to 2-2 in Group G by thrashing KK Cibona Zagreb 79-59 at home on Wednesday. Cholet improved to 2-2 and ties with Ratiopharm Ulm for second place in Group G, two wins behind undefeated leader Spartak St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, Cibona dropped to 0-4 and has no chance to make it to the Last 16. Derrick Obasohan paced the winners with 19 points. Rudy Gombert added 11 while Rudy Jomby and Travon Bryant each had 10 for Cholet. Justin Hamilton led Cibona with 12 points. Hrvoje Kovacevic added 11 for the guests, that led 8-10 early in the game. Gobert and Obasohan stepped up to make Cholet get a 26-15 margin after 10 minutes. Cholet kept a safe 38-28 edge at halftime and used a 14-0 run to break the game open, 56-32, as Cibona never recovered.

Back-to-back triples by Obasohan allowed Cholet to get an early 6-0 lead. Marin Rozic was first to score for Cibona and a three-pointer by DJ Strawberry kept the guests within 8-6. Hamilton followed a jumper with a slam to put Cibona ahead, 8-10, after a 0-7 run. Bryant and Hamilton traded free throws and another three-pointer by Obasohan gave Cholet a 13-12 edge. Gobert hit free throws and Carl Ona Embo had 5 points in a 7-0 run which allowed Cholet to get a 20-13 margin. Strawberry scored in transition but consecutive layups by Obasohan and Gobert made it a double-digit game, 26-15, after 10 minutes. Marcus Goree made free throws early in the second quarter but back-to-back jumper by Rozic and Kovacevic brought Cibona a bit closer, 28-19. Ona Embo sank a jumper and Jomby struck twice from downtown to break the game open, 36-21. Pavle Marcinkovic tried to change things with a put-back layup and a shot from beyond the arc to keep Cibona within 36-26. A layup by Hamilton and free throws by Goree fixed the halftime score at 38-28.

Goree and Hamilton traded baskets after the break and a layup by Gobert allowed Cholet to get a 42-30 lead. Hamilton kept pacing Cibona with free throws but he didn't find much help around. Meanwhile, a four-point play by Obasohan and a dunk by Jomby ignited a game-breaking 14-0 run that A.J. Slaughter capped with a bomb from downtown, good for a 56-32 Cholet margin. Andrija Zizic stepped up with a put-back basket but Terrell Everett followed free throws with a layup off a steal. Marcinkovic scored in the paint and Kovacevic added free throws but Bryant and an unstoppable Slaughter boosted the hosts' lead to 67-38 after 30 minutes. The outcome was clear but Cibona kept trying. Ante Masic shined with consecutive baskets but Everett and Bryant kept Cholet way ahead, 71-42. Kovacevic struck from downtown and a jumper by Zizic made Cholet call timeout at 71-45. Bryant took over with a dunk but Masic and Strawberry brought Cibona a bit closer, 73-52. Jomby dunked it and by the time Everett added a fast break dunk, everything was said and done already. Cholet cruised to an important win, leaving Cibona mathematically out of the competition.
