Zemun rallied to win the seventh place with 66-58 victory over Canarias Basketball Academy at the Belgrade NIJT Qualifying Tournament on Sunday. It is Zemun’s second win in four matches at the tournament, while this is the third consecutive defeat for Canarias despite its strong start to the game. It opened the encounter with a 0-10 run behind Norbert Janicek. Margin reached 11 points on three occasions in the first and second quarters, and Janicek already had 14 points when Canarias held 15-25 lead in the second period. But Uros Vidovic hit a triple to spark a 7-0 run, and Aleksa Bojicic beat the halftime buzzer to cut it to 25-27 at the break. Zemun’s first lead came after a three-pointer from Slobodan Jovanovic during an 11-0 run that was capped by a triple from Jovan Starincevic for 36-29. Advantage soon reached the double-digits, before a triple from Jovanovic and a jumper from Nikola Cirkovic at the start of the fourth quarter made it 51-38. Janicek kept Canarias’ hopes alive, and Jon Ander Cuadra made free throws to bring it within 62-56 with 46 seconds remaining, but Starincevic and Luka Radovanovic sealed it from the foul line. Bojicic led in victory with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Jovanovic netted 14, and Starincevic had 11 for Zemun. Janicek amassed 30 points plus 14 rebounds in defeat, while Cuadra scored 9 points.
