Beaubois's 24 second-half points lead Efes to 7th win
Anadolu Efes Istanbul improved to 7-2 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season by defeating crosstown rival Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul 88-93 on the road on Thursday. Efes recorded its fourth consecutive win and dropped Darussafaka to 1-8. Rodrigue Beaubois paced the winners with 24 points - all in the second half - on 6-of-7 three-point shooting. Tibor Pleiss added 12 points, Brock Motum had 11, Shane Larkin 10 and Adrien Moerman pulled down 12 rebounds for Efes. Micheal Eric led Darussafaka with 18 points, Zanis Peiners added 15, Muhammed Baygul and Jeremy Evans each had 11 and Ray McCallum 10 for the hosts.
Baygul and McCallum combined for 10 quick points to give Darussafaka an early 10-6 edge. Vasilije Micic stepped up with consecutive jumpers, but Baygul and Peiners kept the hosts in charge at 16-12. Eric and Markel Brown scored around the basket and Stanton Kidd hit a triple to boost Darussafaka's lead to 23-17. Free throws by Krunoslav Simon fixed the score at 23-19 after 10 minutes. A three-pointer by Motum and a jump hook by Pleiss completed the guests' comeback, 23-24, early in the second quarter. Darussafaka found a go-to guy in Kartal Ozmizrak and free throws by Kidd gave the hosts fresh air at 31-28. Baygul insisted from beyond the arc to make it a 6-point game. Simon and Larkin brought Efes as close as 41-39, but a jump hook by Eric and a three-point play by Evans boosted Darussafaka's margin to 46-42 at halftime. Beaubois followed a corner triple with foul shots and soon bettered Oguz Savas's basket with a bomb from downtown for a 48-50 Efes lead. Pleiss joined the three-point shootout and a red-hot Beaubois added another two from beyond the arc to boost Efes's margin to double digits, 50-61. Pleiss hit another triple, Micic added a layup-plus-foul and a dunk by Simon made it 56-72, which the hosts cut to 60-74 after 30 minutes. Peiners and Kidd stepped up for Darussafaka early in the fourth quarter, bringing their team within 68-77. Another three-pointer by Beaubois and a driving layup by Larkin kept Efes way ahead, 78-86, with three minutes left. Peiners followed a layup with a three-pointer to get the hosts as close as 83-86. Moerman took over with a put-back basket and a corner three-pointer by Beaubois sealed the outcome, 84-91, in the next-to-last minute.
Pivotal performer
Beaubois was scoreless at halftime, but hit shots from every angle after that, burying 6 of 7 three-pointers on his way to 24 points. He added 5 assists and finished the game with a PIR of 25.
Game-changing moment
Beaubois fired in 4 shots from downtown and Pleiss added 2 more three-pointers in a 4-22 run in which both players combined for all the points, giving Efes a 50-64 margin.
Stellar stat
Efes hit just 3 of 9 three-point shots (33.3%) before halftime, but buried 8-of-13 (61.5%) after the break. Darussafaka hit just 5 of 15 shots from beyond the arc (33.3%), and that made the difference in the game.
