Beaubois's 24 second-half points lead Efes to 7th win

Anadolu Efes Istanbul improved to 7-2 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season by defeating crosstown rival Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul 88-93 on the road on Thursday. Efes recorded its fourth consecutive win and dropped Darussafaka to 1-8. Rodrigue Beaubois paced the winners with 24 points - all in the second half - on 6-of-7 three-point shooting. Tibor Pleiss added 12 points, Brock Motum had 11, Shane Larkin 10 and Adrien Moerman pulled down 12 rebounds for Efes. Micheal Eric led Darussafaka with 18 points, Zanis Peiners added 15, Muhammed Baygul and Jeremy Evans each had 11 and Ray McCallum 10 for the hosts.

Baygul and McCallum combined for 10 quick points to give Darussafaka an early 10-6 edge. Vasilije Micic stepped up with consecutive jumpers, but Baygul and Peiners kept the hosts in charge at 16-12. Eric and Markel Brown scored around the basket and Stanton Kidd hit a triple to boost Darussafaka's lead to 23-17. Free throws by Krunoslav Simon fixed the score at 23-19 after 10 minutes. A three-pointer by Motum and a jump hook by Pleiss completed the guests' comeback, 23-24, early in the second quarter. Darussafaka found a go-to guy in Kartal Ozmizrak and free throws by Kidd gave the hosts fresh air at 31-28. Baygul insisted from beyond the arc to make it a 6-point game. Simon and Larkin brought Efes as close as 41-39, but a jump hook by Eric and a three-point play by Evans boosted Darussafaka's margin to 46-42 at halftime. Beaubois followed a corner triple with foul shots and soon bettered Oguz Savas's basket with a bomb from downtown for a 48-50 Efes lead. Pleiss joined the three-point shootout and a red-hot Beaubois added another two from beyond the arc to boost Efes's margin to double digits, 50-61. Pleiss hit another triple, Micic added a layup-plus-foul and a dunk by Simon made it 56-72, which the hosts cut to 60-74 after 30 minutes. Peiners and Kidd stepped up for Darussafaka early in the fourth quarter, bringing their team within 68-77. Another three-pointer by Beaubois and a driving layup by Larkin kept Efes way ahead, 78-86, with three minutes left. Peiners followed a layup with a three-pointer to get the hosts as close as 83-86. Moerman took over with a put-back basket and a corner three-pointer by Beaubois sealed the outcome, 84-91, in the next-to-last minute.

Pivotal performer

Beaubois was scoreless at halftime, but hit shots from every angle after that, burying 6 of 7 three-pointers on his way to 24 points. He added 5 assists and finished the game with a PIR of 25.

Game-changing moment

Beaubois fired in 4 shots from downtown and Pleiss added 2 more three-pointers in a 4-22 run in which both players combined for all the points, giving Efes a 50-64 margin.

Stellar stat

Efes hit just 3 of 9 three-point shots (33.3%) before halftime, but buried 8-of-13 (61.5%) after the break. Darussafaka hit just 5 of 15 shots from beyond the arc (33.3%), and that made the difference in the game.

Next game:

Both teams return to Turkish Airlines EuroLeague action next week: Darussafaka hosts Herbalife Gran Canaria on Thursday, November 29. Efes welcomes KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on Friday, November 30.

Head Coaches

CAKI, AHMET
Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul
"We had a bad start in the third quarter with some turnovers. At the same time, Anadolu Efes's playmakers showed their quality, especially Beaubois, who made the difference with his three-point shots that gave them control of the game. We played very good in the fourth quarter and came back, fighting really well. We came within 2 points and had a big chance to win, but Anadolu Efes is an experienced team. They know how to play these minutes and won the game. We made a small mistake in the third quarter and at this level, we shouldn't do that. We played well, but just couldn't win the game."
ATAMAN, ERGIN
Anadolu Efes Istanbul
"In the beginning, we saw that we were not ready. We allowed 18 points in coast-to-coast, easy baskets in the first half, and 9 points from offensive rebounds. Rodrigue Beaubois had 0 points in the first half and Adrien Moerman was 1-of-6 from the field. We improved our defense in the second half and started to find our regular scorers, Beaubois, Larkin, Simon. We started to play our game and played perfect in the third quarter. But we know that Darussafaka is a young team that never gives up. In the games that they played before against Khimki, Barcelona, Milan, it was the same - they didn't give up and came back to the game. In the final seconds, we found ways to score with Larkin on the penetrations. It is an important win in this court because I believe that Darussafaka will beat some important teams here with this aggressive basketball."

Players

PLEISS, TIBOR
Anadolu Efes Istanbul
"First of all, I jave to say that Rodrigue [Beaubois] was incredible tonight. I think he finished the game with 24 points; it was incredible! It was kind of a tough game, especially in Istanbul, the opponent came out straight from the beginning with great aggressiveness. We had a lot of problems in the first half, but played better in the third quarter. In the end, because of Rodrigue Beaubois, we won the game. We won, which is the most important thing, especially in Istanbul, which is always tough. I am happy; I can go home and sleep well."
BEAUBOIS, RODRIGUE
Anadolu Efes Istanbul
"Clearly, at the start of the game, they were more aggressive than us and at halftime, coach told us what he needed to tell us - and we reacted. We did a good job playing with more energy, more aggressivity and that is what happened. I think we did a great job in the beginning of the third quarter and that is how we got the win. Coach wanted us to play the way we are supposed to play, and I think we did a better job in the second half."
