They may not win them all, but when it comes to playing with the big boys, no one will doubt anymore that Krka Novo Mesto is right where it belongs in the Euroleague. Novo Mesto already owned the upset of the season. On Wednesday, it topped that with an 82-81 win against previously unbeaten Panathinaikos of Greece. Marko Samanic made two free throws in the final 16 seconds while Damir Mulaomerovic missed two to give Novo Mesto only its second win of the season, although both have been unbelievable. Three weeks ago, Novo Mesto stomped Spanish superpower Real Madrid on its home floor. Panathinaikos, one of only two undefeated teams left after four weeks of play, with defending champion Kinder Bologna, falls to 4-1 and a certain tie for first place in Group C. Novo Mesto has new life with a 2-3 mark. Young buck Jaka Lakovic pulled his weight and then some with a team-high 18 points for Novo Mesto, while Mate Skelin secured the inside with 15 points. Dejan Bodiroga led the Greens with 23 points and Darryl Middleton added 15.

Head Coaches

PIPAN, ALES
KRKA Novo Mesto
"I think we've beaten a great team today, probably the greatest in Europe. We had some bad luck lately. We played well but the result just wasn't there. We achieved that today. We're always playing quite well, but sometimes you need a little bit of luck. We made foul at the right moment on the player who missed both free shots, and it all ended up excellent for us. We played really good in defense; we stopped their outside scorers (Kutulay and Alvertis). We tried to stop Bodiroga, who is almost unstoppable. I think we won as a team - a whole team. There will be no celebration for this win, we have a lot of tough games coming up."
OBRADOVIC, ZELJKO
Panathinaikos Athens
"First of all I want to congratulate Krka for winning. I think we both played a very good game, but the score was decided in the last seconds. Krka's tactical foul over Mulaomerovic, who usually scores free shots, missed both. I don't blame him for that nor do I blame Bodiroga for missing in the last second. I'm however disappointed in my players for not being concentrated at the end of the game and we played poorly in defense. Krka played an aggressive game and they deserve to win."

Players

DROBNJAK, DRAGISA
KRKA Novo Mesto
"We played well in defense and rebounds, and I think this helped us win tonight. Lately we didn't play as team, but more individually. We learned from Skipper, that we have to stop outside scorers and tonight we did a swell job on that. We tried to stop Bodiroga who still made a lot of points, but we managed to stop some of the other players. I don't think we were better just luckier tonight."
BODIROGA, DEJAN
Panathinaikos Athens
"I also want to congratulate Krka for the win. We allowed Krka's players to get some easy points. Krka took many rebounds and scored a lot of second shots. That's what made their score. We played well at times and not so well at times. Now we must work to correct the mistakes we were making here in Novo Mesto."
