Lietuvos Rytas set a do-or-die showdown to a title game spot in Group A by thrashing Union Olimpija Ljubljana 68-88 on Friday. L. Rytas improved to 2-0 and needs to beat La Caja de Canarias Gran Canaria tomorrow to make it to the final on Sunday. Meanwhile, Olimpija went down to 0-2 and ran out of chances to reach the final. Jonas Valanciunas paced the winners with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Dovydas Redikas added 15 points while Mantas Kadzevicius and Sauius Kulvietis each had 12 for L. Rytas. Mirza Sarajlija led Olimpija with 22 points. Nejc Buda added 12 while Gezim Morina had 10. Buida came off the bench to get 6 points and 5 rebounds late in the first quarter. He got some help from Sarajlija to make Olimpija get a 23-19 edge after 10 minutes. Valanciunas returned to the floor and dominated inside, as his three-point play helped L. Rytas to tie it at 26-26. Kulvietis also stepped up to make his team get a five-point lead, 29-34. Back-to-back triples by Sarajlija allowed Olimpija to tie the game again, 39-39, at halftime. L. Rytas rolled after the break, as Valanciunas, Kulvietis and Redikas allowed their team to make it a 13-point game, 53-66, after 30 minutes. L. Rytas limited Sarajlija to just 5 points in the second half, sealing the outcome long before the final buzzer.
