The 2011 NIJT MVP Dario Saric picked up where he left off with a superb game as reigning Nike International Junior Tournament champions KK Zagreb beat Fenerbahce Ulker 79-76 at Abdi Ipecki Arena on Thursday. Zagreb moved to 1-0 in Group B to pull even with Zalgiris Kaunas while Fenerbahce dropped to 0-1 for the same record as Team China. Saric collected 26 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for an index rating of 48. Dominik Mavra actually led Zagreb with 32 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. James Birsen led the losing side with 22 points while Umar Atin added 15 points. A close first quarter saw Fenerbahce lead 19-23 before Saric and Mavra took over in a 16-1 run for a 41-36 advantage at the break. Birsen and Mehmet Sanli kept Fenerbahce in the game, bringing their team to a 52-54 lead late in the third quarter. They also made sure the end was dramatic with Birsen hitting a free throw to give Fenerbahce a 71-74 lead with 1:29 to play. But Saric hit a lay-up and Mavra scored three points to put Zagreb on top 77-74. Berk Ugurlu scored his first field goal to make it just a one point game with four seconds to go, but Mavra hit twice from the line to seal the win.
