Reigning champion Club Joventut Badalona finished its Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Tournament - Milan with a victory, holding off Spanish rivals Cajasol 68-67 in Group A action. Joventut went the final 4:43 minutes without a basket but held on for the win and improved to 2-1 in the group. Xabi Lopez led the way with 20 points while Marc Bauza added 19 points and five rebounds and Francesc Iturria chipped in 11 points. Cajasol leave Milan with one win and a 1-2 record. Carlos Hidalgo had a strong showing with 23 points, five rebounds and six assists while Diego Gallardo scored 16 points. Seville big man Maksim Salash was held to six points and four rebounds. Hidalgo made three three pointers as Seville opened a 20-11 lead. Joventut fought back to make it 20-15 but Gallardo knocked down two treys to push the advantage to 30-22 after one quarter. Hidalgo made it 32-22 to start the second period before Joventut started coming back into the game, trimming the deficit to 37-33. But Cajasol pushed the margin to 44-33 with the next seven points. And the score was 44-35 at halftime. Lopez nailed two triples and another basket as Joventut went on a 13-0 run to start the second half and take a 48-44 lead. Cajasol tied it with the next four points but Lopez knocked down two more three-balls and Badalona was up 56-52. After 30 minutes, the gap was 57-52. Malik Eichler and Juan Oliva both hit long balls to start the fourth and bring Seville to within 59-58. But Lopez and Bauza helped Joventut grab a 68-60 advantage with more than four minutes left. Cajasol got a number of defensive stops and closed the game to 68-67. Salash missed a shot with 55 seconds left and then Gallardo was off target on a three attempt with three seconds left as Joventut secured the win.
