Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas outscored the hosts in each quarter en route to a 75-92 victory to become the first team in the competition to 5 wins. Kyle Kuric scored 20 points to lead a lethal three-point attack for the visitors, who made 13 of 27 from downtown. ASVEL stayed close early, trailed 1 by 1 after 10 minutes and had the score tied midway through the second quarter, but Gran Canaria heated up from outside and slowly pulled away. The loss dropped ASVEL to 2-3 in Group B. Brad Newley added 16 points, Eulis Baez scored 13 and Txemi Urtasun 10 for Gran Canaria, which saw six different players make threes. Taurean Green scored 20 for ASVEL and Edwin Jackson and Ahmad Nivens added 12 each.

Walter Tavares scored first for the visitors before a pair of threes from Green put ASVEL up 6-4. Newley and Tomas Bellas each connected from downtown to boost Gran Canaria to an 8-14 advantage. Jackson pushed the hosts back to 16-16 with a four-point play. Kuric and Newley restored a small lead for the visitors; a Travis Bader triple made it 21-22 through 10 minutes. Yohann Sangare ran a one-man fast break as ASVEL went back ahead. Back-to-back threes by Kuric and Oriol Pauli put Gran Canaria ahead 26-28. David Lighty tied it before Pauli once and Kuric twice connected again from behind the arc for a 32-39 lead. Green and David Andersen pulled the hosts within 2, but Albert Oliver was the next Gran Canaria player to make a three. After free throws from Green, Kuric’s layup gave Gran Canaria a 43-49 halftime lead.

Bellas connected from deep and Txemi Urtasun made a jumper to extend the Gran Canaria lead to 45-56. Lighty made free throws and Ahmad Nivens, but a triple from Eulis Baez kept the visitors in control. Urtasun made it a 12-point lead. Nivens and Jackson supplied offense, but another Oliver three kept Gran Canaria in charge. Kuric knocked down his fourth triple to reach 20 points with a minute left in the third quarter, which finished with the visitors ahead 62-76 after a Jackson three. Baez and Kendall scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter as Gran Canaria went ahead by 18. Nivens helped ASVEL get to within 68-80 before Newley made another three. Gran Canaria did not falter down the stretch as it protected its undefeated record.

Head Coaches

VINCENT, PIERRE
ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne
"We faced a stronger team than us. We made rough defensive mistakes and we let Gran Canaria get confidence."
GARCIA RENESES, AITO
Herbalife Gran Canaria
"We played very well in offense and we led from the beginning until the end because we maintained that level. It was one of the best games of the season. We did not start very well, especially in [the Spanish League]. This is the third game we have won by 15 points or more. We were thinking of improving our level in the Eurocup and now we want to improve in [the Spanish League]. We are not thinking about qualifying in first or second position. We are just thinking of playing better every time and if we do that, we have more chances to qualify in first place."

Players

KURIC, KYLE
Herbalife Gran Canaria
"We came out strong on both ends of the court. We played really strong from the beginning and we maintained that level. We did not look at ASVEL Lyon’s situation. We just looked at what we could do in defense and offense. The next thing we are looking at is the game in [the Spanish League] against Manresa and then we will look at the next game in the Eurocup."
