EWE Baskets Oldenburg thrashed Belgacom Spirou Charleroi 53-70, picking up its third consecutive victory on Wednesday night at Spiroudome. EWE Baskets improved to 3-1, in a second place of Group B, while Spirou remains winless at the bottom of the standings. The visitors trailed only in the opening minute, built a double-digit lead by the halftime, before putting the game away in the third quarter. Rickey Paulding paced the winners with 15 points, while Chris Kramer, Julius Jenkins and Jannik Freese all scored 10 apiece. Devin Green had 12 points plus 8 rebounds for the hosts, and Joseph Trapani chipped in with 10 points plus 7 rebounds.
EWE Baskets scored 13 consecutive points in less than 6 minutes at the start of the game, as Paulding made a dunk and Dru Joyce capped the run with a triple for 2-13. Baskets from Jorn Steinbach and Christophe Beghin at the end of the first, and couple of layups from Devin Green at the start of the second, cut it to 12-16. After Julius Jenkins hit twice from long range, Joseph Trapani made a dunk, and Wen Boss Mukubu nailed a triple for 19-22. However, before the end of the quarter, Paulding and Rickey Smeulders combined to scored 10 points, and the visitors held 23-36 at halftime. Paulding started the third quarter with a triple, and even though Green made a put-back and Trapani nailed a three-pointer, EWE Baskets used triples from Joyce and Jenkins, plus two layups from Freese in a 0-10 run for 30-55. The visitors had 37-58 going into the final 10 minutes, and with game out of hand, baskets were few and far apart in the fourth quarter. Hamilton and Dominik Bahiense de Mello traded triples, before Demond Mallet made a layup, but Freese answered with a put-back. Nemanja Aleksandrov made it 42-65 midway through the fourth, and in the closing minutes Green hit couple of jumpers and Trapani hit another triple, cutting the deficit before the final buzzer.
