Marius Grigonis - JT Zalgiris - Final Four Istanbul 2012Zalgiris Kaunas eliminated the reigning champs KK Zagreb with a 95-70 win in the 10th Nike International Junior Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Abdi Ipekci arena in Istanbul, Turkey. The win gave Zalgiris a 2-1 record in Group B, enough to be even with Fenerbahce-Ulker, but the wins of FB-Ulker over Zalgiris yesterday gave them the tie-breaker and left Zalgiris in the second place. Zagreb fell to 1-2 and finished last in the group after the tie-breaker went in favor of Team China that shares the same record. Marius Grigonis finished with 22 points while Lukas Lekavicius and Toma Dimsa added 18 each. Dario Saric had 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Zagreb, followed by Dominik Mavra with 14 and Mateo Jurkovic with 11. Zagreb had a good start as Saric scored 7 quick points to create an 11-14 gap after less than 4 minutes yet Zalgiris took off quickly and with a 16-2 run took over the game as Grigonis was on fire and collected 16 points already in the first half. Lekavicius scored around the rim and before the end of the first half Zalgiris already led 53-34. Zagreb never managed to create a run to reduce the points difference and the NIJT will have a new champion tomorrow.
