Maroussi Costa Coffee advanced to the Last 16 and clinched the top spot in Group A on Tuesday with a 72-83 road win at Chorale Roanne. Maroussi dominated early, let Roanne back and then pulled away once more for the win, which improved its record to 4-2. Loukas Mavrokefalides was excellent with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Marrousi, which outrebounded Roanne 18-30. Dimitrios Mavroeidis added 16, Jarod Stevenson 14 and Kostas Kaimakoglou 11. Billy Keys also dished 8 assists for the winners. It was all Maroussi in the first half, as the visiotors stormed out to a 20-point lead before Taj Gray and Marc-Antoine Pellin carried Roanne to 31-42 at halftime. Pellin and Mohamed Kone narrowed the gap to 40-44 in the third quarter before threes by Mavrokefalides, Keys and Stevenson keyed a 0-11 run that put Maroussi back in control again and the visitors held on from there. Pellin paced Roanne with 16 points and 5 assists and Aaron Harper added 11 in defeat.

Gray and Harper hit early three-pointers as Roanne got off to a promising start, but Mavrokefalides and Mavroeidis soon cancelled them out and put Maroussi on top. A Keys triple pushed the visitors further ahead and Kostas Charalampidis added a three before Pierric Poupet three gave the hosts some footing. However Stevenson hit from downtown for Maroussi and Mavrokefalides scored inside to make it 14-23 after 10 minutes. After a pair of Poupet free throws, Stevenson hit another three to give Maroussi its first double-digit lead. Georgios Diamantopoulos added a three and Stebenson made his third as the lead soared to 16-34 and Roanne took a timeout. Pellin ended the hosts’ drought, but Maroussi continued to pour it on as a Kaimakoglou basket-plus-foul made it a 20-point game. Harper and Pellin narrowed the gap to 15 and then Gray and Pellin made free throws as Roanne continued to climb back. The duo would each add one more basket to complete a 13-4 push to make it 31-42 at halftime.

Baskets by Pellin and Kone carried the hosts within 7 early in the third quarter and gave Roanne hope. A Poupet triple followed by a Kone steal and slam made it 40-44 and caused Maroussi head coach Anastasios Markopoulos to take a timeout. A Stevenson basket and a Diamantopoulos triple gave Maroussi some breathing room and soon triples by Mavrokefalides, Keys and Stevenson keyed a 0-11 charge as the visitors went up 44-60. Mavroeidis increased the lead to 18 before Curtis Sumpter free throws ended the period at 48-64. Harper scored from the line and Samba Dia hit from downtown as Roanne showed signs of life. The visitors stayed in control thanks to a Kaimakoglou triple and a Mavrokefalides basket. A sumpet slam on the offensive glass followed by a Poupet steal and dish to Harper for a dunk made it 59-71, but Maroussi wasn't folding. Kaimakoglou and Mavrokefalides continued to answer the best efforts of Pellin and Karim Souchu as Maroussi cruied to the win and a spot in the Last 16.
