Promitheas wins, eliminates Ulm
Promitheas Patras defeated ratiopharm Ulm 82-77 at Dimitris Tofalos Arena in Group A on Wednesday. Promitheas, which had already qualified to the Top 16, improved to 6-2 in the standings, while Ulm dropped to 1-7 and was mathematically eliminated from Top 16 contention. Oleksandr Lypovyy led the winners with 16 points, Leonidas Kaselakis added 14, Langston Hall 13 and Octavius Ellis and Chase Fieler each scored 10 for Promitheas. Andreas Obst paced Ulm with 20 points, Zoran Dragic added 14, Killian Hayes tallied 12 points and a career-high 11 assists and Seth Hinrichs scored 11 for the visitors. The game was tied at 58-58 at the end of the third quarter. A three-pointer by Dragic gave Ulm its last lead, 69-70. Lypovyy and Kaselakis each hit a triple in crunch time and a huge dunk by Ellis sealed the outcome, 79-72, with 2 minutes remaining.
Babb got Promitheas going with a three-pointer and a layup and Fieler soon struck from downtown for an 8-2 lead. Hinrichs rescued Ulm with a triple, but Fieler and a big dunk by Lypovyy kept the hosts in control, 12-5. Hinrichs kept pacing the visitors with 4 points in an 0-8 run that Hayes capped with a floater to put Ulm ahead, 12-13. Kaselakis and Hall scored around the basket and Lypovyy added consecutive three-pointers for a 22-15 Promitheas lead. Dragic followed a driving layup with a triple to bring Ulm within 22-20 after 10 minutes. Gerald Robinson struck from beyond the arc early in the second quarter and added a layup off a steal but Isaiah Briscoe rescued Ulm and a four-point play by Obst put the visitors ahead, 27-29. Dimitris Katsivelis scored off the baseline and Ellis added a wild put-back dunk in a 13-0 run in which Kaselakis had 5 points. Dimitris Agravanis capped it with a reverse layup that made a double-digit game, 40-29. Grant Jerrett followed a jumper with an alley-oop slam and Obst struck twice from downtown to give Ulm hope, 42-40, at halftime.
Consecutive layups by Dragic and Hayes completed the visitors' comeback, 42-44, right after the break. Fieler downed a corner triple and followed Chris Babb's driving layup with a fast break dunk for a 49-46 Promitheas lead. Hinrichs stepped up for Ulm and a three-pointer by Briscoe gave Ulm the lead, 51-53. Hall rescued Promitheas with 5 quick points and Lypovyy sank a jumper to give Promitheas fresh air at 58-54. Layups by Briscoe and Christoph Philipps tied it at 58-58 after 30 minutes. Lypovyy and Hayes traded triples early in the fourth quarter and then Ellis ignited the crowd with a put-back slam for a 63-61 edge. Jerrett detonated a big slam before Obst and Dragic each hit a triple to put Ulm in the lead, 69-70, with over 4 minutes left. Lypovyy answered from downtown and Hall added a layup that caused Ulm to stop the game at 74-70. Kaselakis buried a critical three-pointer and fed Ellis for a huge dunk that sealed the outcome, 79-72. Ulm did not give up, but Promitheas kept its composure from the foul line to add another win.
Pivotal performer
Leonidas Kaselakis nailed a three-pointer in crunch time, hit clutch free throws in the final seconds and gave Promitheas a great contribution off the bench, finishing the game with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 fouls drawn for a PIR of 15.
Game-changing moment
A three-pointer by Zoran Dragic gave Ulm a 69-70 edge with over 4 minutes left. Lypovyy and Kaselakis each buried a three-pointer in a 10-2 run which Octavius Ellis capped with his best dunk of the night. Promitheas took a 79-72 edge with 2 minutes left and cruised the rest of the way.

Before this game, Ulm had made 104 of 123 free-throw attempts to lead the competition in accuracy at 84.6%. Ulm only hit half of 20 its free throws on this night. Zoran Dragic, who entered the game with a 75% free throw percentage (21 of 28) made just 2 of 10, missing more free throws than in the five previous games combined.
