Real rolls Fenerbahce for fifth straight win

Real Madrid remained on a roll as it raced past Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 94-74 for its fifth straight victory on Friday in the Spanish capital. Alberto Abalde poured in 17 points to lead the way and Jaycee Carroll had 15 points for Real, whose record improved to 6-4. Anthony Randolph chipped in 14 points, Walter Tavares had 13, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Facundo Campazzo picked up 7 points and 12 assists in Real's fourth victory in five home games this season. Fenerbahce dropped to 4-6 including three straight losses, all of them in Spain. Danilo Barthel was the top weapon with 22 points for Fenerbahce, which was playing without Nando de Colo and Jan Vesely. Lorenzo Brown collected 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss.

Gabriel Deck had 5 points as Real jumped ahead 7-0 before Barthel's three-pointer for Fenerbahce. Ahmet Duverioglu cut the gap to 9-7 but the guests went cold with just one score in the next 6 minutes while Carroll hit from the outside and Randolph drained three triples in a 17-2 surge to move ahead 26-9 on the way to a 28-12 score after 10 minutes. Fenerbahce downed the first 6 points of the second quarter, including a Dyshawn Pierre's triple, to trim the deficit to 28-18. Randolph punched back with a triple and Abalde converted an and-one. Fenerbahce started scoring more consistently with Jarell Eddie hitting a three-pointer and then Brown and Ali Muhammed combining for all the points in a 2-9 spurt to trim the difference to 43-34. Abalde continued his strong game with a pair of baskets as Real stayed up 49-36 at the break. Edgaras Ulanovas had a three-pointer for Fenerbahce early in the second half to get the deficit down to 51-39, but Campazzo took over with 7 points in an 11-2 surge for a 62-41 lead. Fenerbahce just couldn't get enough scores on offense while Rudy Fernandez and Abalde added three-pointers at the other end as Real stayed in charge, 72-51, after 30 minutes. Fernandez was on target from deep again as the lead swelled to 79-53. Barthel would not give up without a fight, hitting 2 three-pointers and 2 more baskets inside, but Fenerbahce still trailed 85-66. Trey Thompkins hit a triple at the other end and Carroll made sure the guests wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way.

Pivotal performer

Facundo Campazzo was pulling the strings for Real all night, collecting 12 assists and he would have collected even more if those catching his flashy dishes would have finished the plays. Campazzo has now collected 39 assists in his last four games.

Telling numbers

Real forced 14 turnovers and turned them into 31 points compared to 7 points off turnovers for Fenerbahce. Real collected 31 assists in the game as the team shot 66.7% on two-pointers. Fenerbahce made 53.1% of its two-pointers.

Milestone for Barthel

Danilo Barthel set a career high with his 22 points and also eclipsed the 500-point mark in the EuroLeague career. He now has 503 points in 64 games.

Next games

Real will head on the road for Round 11 as it faces CSKA Moscow on Thursday, November 26. Fenerbahce will return home for its next game, welcoming Valencia Basket on November 27, facing a Spanish team for the fourth straight game.

Head Coaches

LASO, PABLO
Real Madrid
"Our start of the second half was pretty good. I think Alberto (Abalde) and Rudy (Fernandez) did a great job stopping them. Then we were able to move the ball well throughout the whole game. And in the end we got a big victory. I am happy with the performance of the guys today. Everybody did a great job on helping situations, on pick-and-roll, on shutting down what they were good at. So I am very happy with our defense. I still think we have a couple of things we need to work on. But in general, I think defensively we were pretty good. Offensively, there is one thing that shows it's a team thing and that is 31 assists. Everybody was playing unselfish basketball, moving the ball around and getting good shots."
KOKOSKOV, IGOR
Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul
"I would like to congratulate Real Madrid on an excellent game and coach Pablo Laso for his performance, too. They played well. They looked like a well-oiled machine. They have a lot of veteran players. Their offense was very smooth, very precise, very efficient. You can just look at the assist to turnovers ratio and see 31 assists. The ball is always moving, switching side to side. The shot selection was excellent. We knew what was the strength of this team. We knew where the main problems were coming from. But it's easy to talk about basketball; you have to do it on the court. I think we had some spots. We played hard, we always play hard. But that's not good enough. This is EuroLeague, the second-best league in the world, and you have to play well, too. We made a lot of mistakes. A lot of mental mistakes."

Players

TAVARES, WALTER
Real Madrid
"It was the defense. The defense gives us the confidence to get out and run and have more confidence on the offensive end. That was the key for us. If we are good on defense then the offense will take care of itself."
ABALDE, ALBERTO
Real Madrid
"We're feeling better. We're improving as a team. Everybody is focused to keep growing as a team and playing better every day. Now, we have a good winning streak. We are happy about that but we have to keep working. I come out to do my job, just like all my teammates. This is a team win. Everybody came on and did a good job. It was a good win."
