Hemofarm Stada advanced to the Eurocup Last 16 by rallying from a 14-point deficit to edge CEZ Basketball Nymburk 80-82 in a winner-take-all showdown in Pardubice, the Czech Republic in Group H on Tuesday. Hemofarm finished second with a 3-3 record, joining Group H champion iurbentia Bilbao Basket in the Last 16. Nymburk went down to 2-4 and could not reach the Last 16 in its second season in Europe's second competition. Milan Macvan became the game hero with the game-winning basket in the final seconds. Miljan Pavkovic paced the winners with 20 points on 6-for-10 three-pointers. Stefan Markovic added 19 while Macvan and Boban Marjanovic each had 11 for Hemofarm, that led 51-37 at halftime. An outstanding Pavkovic took over in the fourth quarter while a three-pointer by Markovic completed the guests' comeback, 74-75. It all came down to the final seconds, in which Sokolovsky commited a turnover, allowing Macvan to score in the other end and win it for Hemofarm.
Markovic got Hemofarm going with a dunk and Macvan scored down low for a 0-4 Hemofarm lead. Nebojsa Joksimovic followed a triple for a put-back layup to keep the guests ahead, 6-9. Benda tried to change things for the hosts, but Macvan and Marjanovic gave the guests a 8-13 margin. Joksimovic sank a jumper but Gray and Schlib stepped up and Sokolovsky sank a triple to give Nymburk its first lead, 19-16. Gray struck from downtown while Lee added a layup that capped a 16-1 run and boosted the hosts' lead to 24-16 after 10 minutes. Markovic stepped up with a layup and Macvan scored again but Lee and Jagodnik answered for a 28-20 Nymburk edge. Gray buried his third triple but Pavkovic and Petar Despotovic answered from downtown to bring Hemofarm back to life, 34-28. Nymburk found a go-to guy in Lee, who buried a big triple and then had 4 points in 6-0 run. Gray nailed another three-pointer for a 46-33 Nymburk margin. Marjanovic and Boris Savovic shined with consecutive dunks but Lee and a final layup by Michal Kremen made it a 14-point game, 51-37, at halftime.
Hemofarm went scoreless for more than 2 minutes while a jumper by Benda gave the hosts a 53-37 lead right after the break. Markovic had 5 points in a 2-7 margin to bring Hemofarm within 55-44. Markovic fired in one from downtown, igniting a 0-7 run that Marjanovic capped with a put-back layup to bring the guests back to life, 57-51. Lee scored again while Pavkovic and Sokolovsky traded triples for a 62-54 score. Lee gave Nymburk a 64-56 margin after 30 minutes. Lee stayed unstoppable early in the fourth quarter and even when Markovic sank a triple, Jagodnik and Krstovic traded baskets for a 68-61 score. Gray nailed his fifth triple to make Hemofarm call timeout, 71-61, with 6 minutes to go. Pavkovic took over with consecutive triples and added free throws to bring Hemofarm back in the game, 71-69. Jagodnik sank a triple but Pavkovic and Markovic answered from downtown to complete the guests' comeback, 74-75. Lee made a foul shot and added a layup to restore a 77-75 Nymburk edge with under a minute to go. Savovic tied the game with free throws, Benda scored down low while Krstovic and Schlib traded foul shots for a 80-78 score. Pavkovic fed Savovic with a layup for a 80-80 tie. Nymburk called timeout, but Sokolovsky committed a turnover and Macvan scored the game-winning basket in the final second to send Hemofarm to the next round in thrilling fashion!
