Tomas Satoransky - Cajasol Seville - EC12 (photo dinamobasket.com)A thriller in Belgrade produced a new Last 16 qualifier when Cajasol Seville survived Crvena Zvezda on the road, 70-76, on Wednesday night, The Spanish team needed to win and hope for a Dinamo Sassari loss to Orleans Loiret Basket in the other game of the group, which in fact happened. Therefore, Cajasol advances as second in Group H with a 3-3 record, while Crvena Zvezda drops to 5-1, losing its first game of the season, but still stands as group champ. Cajasol had bigger advantages during the game, but in the last period the hosts recovered and even threatened the guests' win. Cajasol had a cold head in theline and took the prize back to Seville. Luka Bogdanovic led the winners with 16 points, John Holland added 14, Juan Triguero 11 and Tomas Satoransky 10. For Zvezda, Rasko Katic had 14 points and Mike Scott added 10. Crvena Zvezda will be in Group L in thenext phase, while Cajasol lands in Group K.

Cajasol Seville showed it mean business with an early 0-4 edge even though Crvena Zvezda woke up fast. DeMarcus Nelson tied the game at 6-6 for the hosts but Tomas Satoransky and Luka Bogdanovic blasted threes for Cajasol and then Ondrej Balvin had four points of his own to make it 9-16. Cajasol was on fire and the run progressed to a 2-14 when Bogdanovic scored his 10th point in 9 minutes. After 10 minutes, Cajasol dominated at ease, 12-25. The second quarter was not that easy for the guests. Crvena Zvezda woke up as Mike Scott exploded for 8 points in five minutes for the hosts. Cajasol was still hangin on however, as Juan Jose Triguero slammed the ball to keep the quarter balanced and, therefore, Cajasol ahead by 26-39. When Elton Brown fed Branko Lazic to make it 36- 46, the game went into the halftime break.

Defenses started huge in the second half and points came in really scarce. Latavious Williams scored the first points of the third period for Cajasol after two minutes, and then another full minute went by until Rasko Katic did the same for Crvena Zvezda. Finally, a three by Vuk Radivojevic gave the game some extra scoring action for the 41-49 in minute 25. That increased the intensity in the game on the offensive end for both teams as Joan Sastre soon replied with his own three for Cajasol. The guests were maintaining the double-digit lead but Katic scored again to make it a 9-point game, 52-61, after 30 minutes. Sastre had another three for him to start the last period, and Marko Simonovic soon added free throws to put Crvena Zvezda six points below, 58-64. Katic made it 60-64 but John Holland stopped the bleeding for Cajasol with his layup. The game was approaching its last minutes with Crvena Zvezda biting point after point and Cajasol resisting ahead by 3-6 points. The game entered the last two minutes with Scott's bucket for 66-70, but misses on both ends saw the clock ticking away to the last minute with the same score. Tomas Satoransky scored once from the stripe and then, Holland did the same again after an Igor Rakocevic bucket, for 68-72. Then, Bojan Subotic missed the hosts' shot and when Bogdanovic was fouled with 13 seconds to go, Cajasol started celebrating its passage into the Last 16, because he scored both attempts for 68-74 and there was no time for much more.

"Congratulations to Cajasol for going to the next phase. The beginning of the game decided the winner. In spite of a good atmosphere, we didn't start well, we were too soft defensively. In the second half I made some changes and the players reacted well on the defensive end, but they couldn't score on offense. Despite everything, we had a chance to win this game in the end. I don't want to comment our next group, but it is going to be tough against Unics and Galatasaray."
GARCIA RENESES, AITO
Cajasol Seville
"We are playing much better than at the beginning of the season. Statistically speaking, we won because of the poor shooting percentage of our opponent. We often allow many three-pointers to our opponents, but that wasn't the case tonight. I am glad that we managed to go to the next phase and it wouldn't have happened if Orleans didn't win in Italy. On the other hand, it could be a problem for us, because now he have more tough games to come and our priority is the Spanish championship."

"I want to apologize to our fans for a bad game tonight. We played this game with a lack of effort. We didn't play like we agreed in the locker room. Hopefully, this loss is going to wake us for the upcoming games."
BOGDANOVIC, LUKA
Cajasol Seville
"I thought this game wouldn't mean anything to us, but Orleans won in Italy and we qualified for the next phase. We came to play here without any pressure and we used the fact that Igor [Rakocevic] didn't play well. We're improving from game to game. We have a lot of new players without much experience; we're going to get much better. "
