Less than 24 hours after qualifying for the Top 16 with his help, Montepaschi Siena announced on Saturday that center Mario Kasun has left the team by mutual agreement at the player's request. In the statement, the club said that Kasun made the request because he wished to return home to Croatia for personal reasons. Kasun (2.13 meters, 32 years old) arrived in Siena this summer, making Montepaschi his fourth Euroleague team since 2006. He was averaging 5 points and 4 rebounds in 11 minutes over eight Euroleague games. Kasun's departure comes as Siena is playing without another center, Benjamin Eze, who played the first game of the season and has been out indefinitely since then with a knee injury. The club picked up Benjamin Ortner last month to help fill the middle. The other centers are Tomas Ress and Luca Lechtaler, although the latter hasn't appeared in a Euroleague game this season. Kasun began his career in Croatia, then moved for three seasons to Germany and two with Orlando of the NBA. He returned to Europe as a double-digit scorer with F.C. Barcelona between 2006 and 2008, then spent two years interrupted by injury with Efes Pilsen before averaging his Euroleague career high of 12.2 points last season with KK Zagreb.
