Thousands of Olympiacos fans waited for the back-to-back Turkish Airlines Euroleague champions upon their arrival to Eleftherios Venizelos airport on Monday afternoon. In front of a triumphant atmosphere, Olympiacos players, coaches, owners and staff members were welcomed back as heroes. Georgios Printezis and three-time Final Four MVP Vassilis Spanoulis had the honour to bring the trophy back to Greek soil off the plane. The entire Olympiacos family hopped on a bus and some players went up to its roof with the Euroleague trophy - Spanoulis, Acie Law, Kyle Hines, Printezis, Pero Antic and Kostas Papanikolao, along with his Aggelopoulos brothers - to celebrate with all fans surrounding it. "Here they are, here they are - the champions" was the most repeated slogan by Olympiacos fans. The bus slowly moved forward to get to Peace and Friendship stadium, where Olympiacos fans, despite the rain, remained until late at night, celebrating and singing. There will be little time for more celebrations, however, as Olympiacos must get back to work to face Apollon Patras in the Greek League.
Karolos Papoulias, president of the Greek republic, and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras sent respective messages to congratulate the team. "Your success in a major European event for the second consecutive year, is an example for all of us - with your methodical work, a focus on the goal, and above all faith in our strengths, we can reach the top. On behalf of all Greeks, a big 'thank you'," he added. " Papoulias said. "From my heart, congratulations to Olympiacos for its second consecutive Euroleague title and the thrill that gave to everyone," Samaras said minutes after the game.
