As announced by the club in two statements on Monday morning, Anadolu Efes Istanbul and head coach Oktay Mahmuti agreed to part ways, after which he was replaced by Vangelis Angelou of Greece, who signed to take over the team's bench for the next two-and-a-half seasons. Mahmuti was in his second stint as Efes coach since arriving for the 2012-13 season. After losing five its last six regular season games, Efes needed last-minute help from others in its group to reach the Top 16 with a 4-6 record. Mahmuti had previously coached Efes from 2000 to 2007 and over a total of eight-and-a-half seasons led led the club to four Turkish League titles, a Turkish President's Cup and the 2001 FIBA Suproleague final four.

Angelos, who has been coaching for 17 years since ending a 22-season playing career, was a Euroleague champion as assistant coach to Dusan Ivkovic with Olympiacos Piraeus in 2012. He also won the Eurocup as Ivkovic's assistat with Dynamo Moscow in 2006. Except for between 2010 and 2012 with Olympiacos, Angelos has been a head coach in Greece since 2007 with AEK, Trikala 2000 and, most recently, Aris Thessaloniki.
