Derrick Brown has enjoyed a spectacular debut Turkish Airlines Euroleague campaign with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, and in Top 16 Round 12 he added another feather in his cap by claiming the prize as the week’s bwin MVP. Brown, who was named the league’s MVP for November, was an ever-present force in Lokomotiv’s 84-73 win over Partizan NIS Belgrade. He posted 18 points, making 6 of 6 two-point shots, and 6 of 8 from the foul line. Brown also dished a career-high 7 assists, pulled down 5 rebounds, claimed 3 steals, made 1 block and drew 6 fouls, adding up to a performance index rating of 34, which was the best of any player this week. Behind him with an index rating of 30 was Sergio Rodriguez of Real Madrid. In a 76-77 road win over Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, Rodriguez came off the bench to score 21 points and making 11 of 11 free throws in addition to 5 assists, 2 rebounds and 6 drawn fouls in 20 minutes on the floor. Rounding out this week’s best performances was a trio with 26 indexes: Maccabi’s Alex Tyus, Madrid’s Ioannis Bourousis, and Tibor Pleiss of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria. Nokia Arena saw three of the top four performances this week, as Tyus collected 18 points plus 11 rebounds of the bench, while Boruousis on the other end had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. In Istanbul, Pleiss followed up last week’s top performance with another big one, scoring 20 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and adding a steal and a block in Laboral’s 79-105 road win against Anadolu Efes. Individual leaders: Furkan Aldemir of Galatasaray, 14 rebounds
Bojan Bogdanovic of Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul led all players with 24 points this week. Bogdanovic, the regular season scoring champ, is fourth on the full season charts with 15.3 points per game. Though Keith Langford of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan missed a second straight week with a leg injury, he remains the league’s leading scorer with 17.4 per night. Furkan Aldemir of Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul was Top 16 Round 12’s top rebounder with 14 boards and moved up to eighth for the season with 6.4 per game. Joffrey Lauvergne 8.8 rebounds per game are best in the competition. Jamon Gordon of Anadolu Efes and Evangelos Matzaris of Olympiacos Piraeus each dished 9 assists to top the weekly standings. Dimitris Diamantidis is the season-long leader with an average of 6.6 assists. Kyle Hines of CSKA Moscow blocked 4 shots, the best among all players this week. Bryant Dunston of Olympiacos’s 1.6 blocks per gameare best in the Euroleague. Six players had 3 steals this week – Brown, Dunston, Milan’s Daniel Hackett, Paulius Jankunas of Zalgiris Kaunas, Birkan Batuk of Efes and Carlos Suarez of Unicaja Malaga.
